Selfish: Me! It's All About ME!!!!!

It just really burns my biscuits that I'm not first. I should be first. Harrumph.

Greetings to all my blogger buddies! It's me your pal Sar of Belle of The Brawl! I thought I should take this spot to remind everyone to come visit me on Belle of The Brawl to participate in the caption contest since it's "Tell Me Tuesday" on Belle of The Brawl. We really do have a lot of fun on Belle of The Brawl, so be sure to come over and play with us on Belle of The Brawl.

Oh and hi Doug. I'll try to tear myself away from all the fun on Belle of The Brawl if I happen to think of a suitable contribution for selfish.

tee hee! :)

Doug The Una said...

Indie, thank heaven you're here. Now I'm glad I posted.

You're first, Jenna, just out of order.

Sar, you left out the links. There should be a lot of links.

Brian, that's grand. There are no rules or supposed tos. Make yourself at home and welcome.

Indeterminacy said...

There's a German saying that popped up some years ago - but I haven't heard it in English before:

Wenn jeder an sich denkt, ist an alle gedacht.

If everyone would think of themselves, we'd all be thought of.

(It really can't be translated)

Minka said...

Brian is here!!! And boy will he be able to contribute...he knows his words that one!

selfish? taking the bigger half, while pretending that you haven´t noticed :)

Tom & Icy said...

That's why they call those things meme and not youyou

Doug The Una said...

Genau, Indie. Ehrlich.

Not that you would, right, Minka? How about planting the toy you've always wanted on a kid and calling him obsessive?

Lammy, can anyone doubt they were named right?

The amoeba said...

SELFISH, n. Cockles, and mussels, alive, alive O.

What? That's shellfish?!? Hey! What have you got against old Irish ballads? Crooned by glorious me, of course!

[One only hopes that what they're selling doesn't stink.]

The amoeba said...

oh, and sar? You're a heel.

:)

Mo'a said...

Selfish....the name of our nation....as in US u slefish.

OK!!!!so going against your advice I shall plug on.....to selfish to be left out.

Anonymous said...

Make it so I am first. Well? I haven't got all day.

Doug The Una said...

And then, O Ceallaigh, sometimes having a marine biologist on the site is less of a plus. Your taxonomy of Sar is compelling, though. The scoundreless left a funny comment and deleted it. Hrumph.

Mo'a, going against my advice may be selfish but taking it is foolish.

Jenna, here's an "I'm #1" iron-on

Sar said...

Doug - do you really think that I, the Belle of The Brawl, would be so selfish as to link to my brawling self?

O Ceallaigh - what are you saying, I've got no sole?!

Sar said...

Doug - Who me, delete my own comment? Why that'd be selfish indeed!

*whistling innocently*

sel-fish aka salt cod, delish.

Hey Brian and Mo'a, when I first started coming here I just stood in awe of the brilliant and funny party-ers. I didn't know what to say either. Then, after receiving Doug's warm and friendly welcome a few times, I realized it doesn't matter...just participate. I think it's nice to see you here. I'm selfish, I like to see my friends all in the same place at the same time.

Ambrose might have been a bit of a crab, but you won't find any crabs here. Just an amoeba, a few dogs, a beautiful shoe, and lot of interesting people!

Minka said...

I agree Kyahgirl, the first time I stumbled here via blogexplosion I was in awe. I knew I´d found a great page, yet the people in the comment section were so intimidating that I just said hi, congratualted the owner of this page on a good blog and left. His warm welcome made me come back and after a while I commented here and there. Nothing major happened and after a while you knew almost everybody and my inhibitions were lowered. Now I comment a lot, however I want, sometimes good, sometimes I just say Hi...regardless, it is always fun! A bit like Central Perk in FRIENDS!

Doug The Una said...

Sar, if you think for one minute that you're going to pump me for shoe pun out of this guy, you're flat wrong. Toe the line, missy.

Mistress Anna, yours is a more-gracious-than-average child.

MMmm, Kyah you remind me of lutefisk in church. *gurgle* Thanks for the kind endorsement, though.

And the world's never been the same, Minka. It was TLP, wasn't it. She's just scary.

Mikki Marshall said...

selfish (adj)
when the world frames your self-portrait

Logophile said...

The emphasis is on the wrong quality but I thought of...

"To be stupid, selfish, and have good health are three requirements for happiness, though if stupidity is lacking, all is lost."
Gustave Flaubert

Here's to happiness!
Things don't bode well for many of you here though, sorry to say.

Minka said...

logo, according to that rule I feel like: "Santa, on prosac, in Disneyland, getting laid!" Or in other words, extremely happy!

Kyahgirl said...

Doug, you see, here is a perfect example. I didn't have a clue what you were talking about. Who knows every obscure fact there is? Doug, and his cohorts at WA. I had to go google lutefisk. now I'm bette educated and grossed out.

logo-if we go by Flaubert's definition, I guess we're doomed, no stupid people here. We just need to revert to plan b, Cowgirl's approach, and drink our sorrows away.

The amoeba said...

I was too selfish to notice, in my first comment, that selfish is an adjective, not a noun. For your punishment, and especially for Lammy's:

SELFISHNESS, n. [so there!] Why three tenors can't sing harmony; they all want the same note at the same time. mi mi mi mi ...

Ariel the Thief said...

but Still Life, the world IS my self-portrait.

selfish is not a question. the opposite is the question. :-P

Mo'a said...

Here I am again....thank you Doug...Kyahgirl and Minka...Ok!!the selfish memememe has Brian as my next on my taget....he writes poems :)
I am up on one obscure fact, the smelly lutefisk....to think they smell up their nation "Sweden" and "Minnesota", with lutefisk on the night before Xmas....Icelanders smell up their nation at the same time with Skata, they are ever so selfish and keep it in Iceland. BTW Skata is not a selfish.....it is a flatfish.

Mutha said...

Loved your definition Doug. But enough of this crap. Let's talk about ME.

Anonymous said...

Ooh an iron on. I'm going to put it on my shorts. Right on my tush. So as I'm walking away people will know I'm number 1. I'd put it on my shirt but it says "Gimme" so...

Anonymous said...

" the forest for the me's"

how can anyone possibly beat that doug?

Anonymous said...

I just don't see how that definition applies. There is no mention of Paris Hilton in it.

Doug The Una said...

Cowgirl, that's a fantastic quote. Not to fear I'm an artful borrower, not a thief.

Good one, Still Life, or gilding the self-portrait and leaving the frame rough?

Logo, that would explain my grin. Another great quote.

Hahaha, Minka. So Santa knows about Reykjevik? Makes sense.

Kyahgirl, I've just been to Lutheran Christmas Eve services a lot. The neighbors will complain.

Stick to biology, O Ceallaigh.

Excellent, Ariel.

Haha, thanks Mo'a. Careful, though. If you educate me too much I may lose the grin and start thinking about social justice.

Mutha, I just hope that your children thank God daily that they have you for a mom while they do their chores and dig salt for your supper.

Jenna, they can probably figure out how you rank without the patch, right?

Thank you, Alice. No, really, you're too kind.

Whinger, it's all about her.

TLP said...

Selfish, adj.,: describing the tendency to get oneself NOTICED and noticed favorably. Not that I would know.

You all seem to be more interested in yourselves than in me. That is so selfish! One of my chief regrets is that more people don't know about ME. It would be selfish of me to not brag. After all, you need to pay attention to ME.

I am so too not scary, dawg.

BTW, good definition Doug. See, how selfless I can be? I am so not selfish. I am so giving. Did you notice that? It's pretty amazing, isn't it? I mean, considering how special I am.

Anonymous said...

You can't take my back my badge Doug. It is MINE!

TLP said...

And another thing, I don't take up more than me fair share of attention and space here. So I am not selfish, but if you are trying to post here and taking up MY space, then you are selfish. See how it works?

The Village Idiot said...

I had a whole post about bivalves and everything prepared but that marine scientist person stole it, ...HOW SELFISH

TLP said...

I think I might have more advice to give you on this. I'll get back to you.

Ariel the Thief said...

TLP, you're hilarious. I wouldn't like to look selfish but I kind of start expecting to laugh my ass off when your avatar appears.

Doug The Una said...

TLP, you are so too scary. In a sweet and smart and snarky kinda way. And thank you, your highness.

No, no, Jenna, you keep it. I'm just saying you're number 1 anyway. Honest. (Like I want it back now. Sheesh.)

Sorry, TLP. Can I use this space? I mean, until you need it?

Village Idiot, the best laid plans of Mice and Mollusks.

TLP, I can't wait. Generous. You're generous.

It's true, Ariel. When my email shows a TLP comment I start chuckling before I read it.

LeMas. said...

I would give a definition but that would mean I would have to share my time and brilliance and that wouldn't be very selfish of me...

So, since I haven't been posting on my blog lately, I'll just use this blog. Hi Still Life! I like your comments. Thanks Ariel! You're sweet. Nice Sar. Clever. Fun, 3D. I wonder where AP3 and Acton Bell are?

Indie, Jenna, nice to see you! Cowgirl, I'll take the extra cuties. Kyahgirl, hey there. Minka,Masil, Brian, hi there.

Idiot, funny as usual. Whinger, whinge on. O, may I call you "O"?, witty. Mutha and Cooper, nice to see you here. Miz B! Cute. So nice of you all to come see about me.

SO. Here's MY post:
I ran errands today. Took the husband along so that I could park close to the stores and let him sit in the car. That way if I'm illegally parked, he can move the car if someone complains. Not my problem.

If you want to contact me or comment on my day, just leave a note here.

Doug: If I get mail here, just compile the most interesting stuff and give me an Executive Summary. I'll expect that in my in-box by 8 PM, TLP time.

Kyahgirl said...

TLP-you're a riot :-) Poor Doug, I wonder if he foresaw his new career as your administrative assistant!

Jenna and Cowgirl-you can wrastle with Minka for the cute guys, I'm just going for the party...and to administer ice-packs to brawling, selfish girls.

The amoeba said...

Kyah, if you can stand the thought of sharing those ice packs, I'll be glad to help.

Brian, stop bogarting the girls!!

[If only I were cute ...]

Alana said...

Doug, I sure hope Kobe Bryant gave you permission to use this word.

Ariel the Thief said...

Still Life, what more can I strive for? I am framed, therefore I am.

Kyahgirl said...

o'ceallaigh-of course, what better job for the nerds than administering the ice packs? You just want to get your hands on Jenna, don't you? naughty.

cowgirl, of course I'll be your own personal ice pack nurse, I've spent my whole life preparing for this moment. Do you think Minka will let us all stay with her? We'll have to wait til tomorrow to find out.

The amoeba said...

kyah! sssh! Sharks are supposed to sneak up to their targets silently. Until they touch the puck ...

Cowgirl, careful... you'll make me go all squishy.

Minka said...

It´s a date. I already booked the ice-bar. The entire bar is out of ice and snow and believe you me the drinks glow. I am not sure about the Icelandic guys though. The girls are amazing: Any of us on the verge of becoming a lesbian, Icelandic girls will push us over the edge!
Oh, and there is a new batch of exchanae students arriving next week...Italians, Spanish and Portugese. Rest assured ladies, they will heat us up!
After the oarty we will take a dip in one of teh many hot pots here ander a starlit sky...

Doug The Una said...

*draws deep breath*

Thank you, Masil for letting us believe for one more day.

Still Life, yay! I can't believe we got 40-some-odd comments before someone thought of Veruca Salt. You get candy.

Gina, what do you get when you cross a Jew with an Irishwoman? Anybody? Oh, and I'm being Haram today not unkosher. This is an interfaith site.

Still Life, that's what I thought when you posted your picture. Drape the girl in gold.

Brian, I would be too. You're excused.

Dddragon, The funniest part about your comment is I bet you were making rock candy for a fundraiser with your other hand.

Minka, that explains why he's such a jolly old elf. Put a big piña colada for the two of you on my tab.

Cowgirl, I'm pretty sure you can't drink away selfishness. Sorrows, any old time.

Kyahgirl, sounds like they could use a good chemist.

Come on Jenna, how many do you need at once? 6 or 7 tops, I reckon.

Generous, Cowgirl. You're off topic, though.

Haha, Miz. B. Espero solamente a ti, hermana adorada.

TLP, I'll take care of it, madame. Did you want me to research a radio question?

Kyahgirl, you're a saint. Administrative Assistant is a major promotion from Executive Director. No complaints here. If the girls keep carrying on, though, I may need an icepack.

O Ceallaigh, I hear you. I feel like the guy with the car who ends up chauffering his friends and their dates. I used to be cute.

Squaregirl, High Five!

Holy cow, Ariel! It's sad that Kafka died without ever coining that line.

Bless you, Cowgirl. Ain't you a lady?

Kyahgirl, I'm staying with Santa.

O Ceallaigh, if they touch the puck. Quack quack. Hate to see an Amoeba go squishy.

Actonbell, this did seem to be a winning word in this crowd. I think I know who wrote that.

Minka, you are so posting those pictures. And generous of you to offer.

Selfish. Nice with lemon and drawn butter. Or maybe steamed in a wine-y broth. Not kosher and often thought to be the carrion-of-the-water but I don't care, I like it anyway. Especially Maine ones, with corn on the cob and new red potatoes. xoxoxo

Kyahgirl said...

No karma, we've been waiting for you,. Are you coming to Iceland with us? I believe Minka wanted to share some philosophy with you about all cats being black in the dark or something along those lines.

Karma, you know perfectly well a party can't start until someone prays to Ganesh and you're the only one here knows sanskrit. OK, cue the music.

Mireille, better than shellfish they have rotten shark meat. I read about it on Minka's blog. And, M? It's kosher. By the way, scroll up and find Ginah's comments.

That's what I like about you Doug! The answer to your riddle: my two kids - and let me tell you, look out! Since I don't have a blog of my own - yet, I'll share that growing up the 7th of 10 children, selfish is a luxury which I have always enjoyed!

Doug The Una said...

Cowgirl, it's all yours. Do enjoy it.

Kyahgirl, I feel just fine about this blog being ours. I think I write about 1% of it.

You're correct, Cowgirl. Very Shaker of you and so, be my guest. I won't answer the next comment if it says "100"

Anonymous said...

Just wanted to be the 100th - now how's that for selfish?!

Anonymous said...

Could not answer your question earlier, otherwise, I would not have been the 100th. I believe they're still arguing over that one, but probably drink it then complain about it. Really, do I get some sort of award for that random 100th thing? I'm preparing my speech...

Doug The Una said...

Ginah, you are the first ever 100th commenter on Waking Ambrose. I'll bring the bouquet after your speech.
