Not Quite The Christmas Story

First of all, Happy Birthday to Lucy Em aka Rainbow Lotus!

Story #18, in which the blogangels announce the coming of the Dork King.

For the raconteur, click Doug at his peak of sophistication and refinement.

To read the story, pull up with Andy (left) and me.

Today's story is cross-posted on Doug Drones On where Semisweet1 also tells a story illustrating his nickname.

But wait, there's more! My sister emailed me a request to put up this link which I'm told links to a blogged birthday card. As of this writing, I haven't seen it so I reserve the right to come back and delete if it's too embarrassing.

  1. Happy Birthday my darling.

Breaking myths and predictions and all the rules, is only proof of how very special you are. And there was never any doubt about that

  5. Haha, thanks dear Dddragon. My sister has never let go of my ?-mohawk!

Thanks, S. Your story is funny. BBG? WTH?

Thanks, K. They're good nuts and I like to think I didn't fall far.

And thank you, Weirsdo. Truth is I got expelled from the land of children waiting to be born.

    Happy Birthday Dear Dog...er Doug
    Happy Birthday To You

Sorry it wasn't more original, but the sentiment was there. Happy Birthday and many more to my favorite Blog Dog. :)

  7. Oh, I almost forgot! I loved your post and your birthday blog. Between the two, your family has even the Pez's beat for familial affinity. I think it's endearing and wonderful. :)

  8. And at the risk of my previous comment being misconstrued (and because I haven't left quite enough comments here yet!), let me clarify. I've come to believe there is no greater example of familial affinity than that of the Pez's. Doug's post and birthday blog were at least that impressive today. And again I think it's just wonderful.

    Pancakes anyone?

  9. Happy birthday. Many more!

  10. Whew Sar. I was scared for a minute there.

I love the birth story. Haven't gone to the card yet, but I will.

BTW, Doug, on my blog I told people that you are SMART. Ahem. *tap foot* Then I come here and you write "with Andy and I." Just sayin'.

  11. Back from the linked birthday blog. Your family loves you. Why doesn't that surprise me?

    Nice idea they had.

  12. Thanks, Sar. A couple more and you can have the rest of the day off.

Thanks, Tom & Icy! Glad to call you both friends.

TLP, you should be more careful what you promise, young lady. (edits coming shortly)

  13. That's a great story. That Dad.

I love the pictures! What a cute little kid you were! And for the lower picture, I must say...

I SEE LONDON, I SEE FRANCE, I SEE DOUGIE'S UNDERPANTS!

    Just sayin'

  14. Happy Birthday!! And all those links - somebody's real popular. Cute pictures. (Aral, did you have to point that out? Ewwww.)

  15. I tried posting this earlier but in my own way, I mis-hit, or mis-mashed something and it didn't work. So, I'll try again relating some juicy, silly Dougie stories for his bithday....

Doug's first attempt at a self designed Halloween coustume at around age 13...a raincoat buttoned to his neck and a large brimmed Goodwill fedora..all for his interpretation of a flasher!

BLUE food created by my 7,8,9 and 10 year old (he never gave up the quest for perfection).

An early a.m. January 1st visit by his Real Mama to Pasadena's Kiddy Jail to bail out the neer-do-well kid who threw a beer bottle onto the Orange Grove Blvd. starting point of the Pasadena Rose Bowl Parade; with a promise by the gend'arms not to report it to his uppity high school! (like it really mattered to this same son).

Wonderful handmade and specially selected gifts to his family from his various sojurns into the world's wild spots!

Sleeping on a bench in mid winter on the shores of Lake Michigan..sleeping in train stations...sleeping in bus stations..sleeping on desert floors..sleeping on floors !

    Burning toilet bowls.

Trying to hide from his mother but confessing to his pediatrician (who he still saw in H.S. because she was so wonderful) his "interest" in maui wowie!

Making us all laugh from the time he could say his first word until now.

Happy birthday, you silly! And to all those who extended their best wishes to my child, thanks!

In my own computer illiterate way the above post appears as if it was written by Doug. It wasn't. It was Doug channeling his mother. So, for those of you who are reading this far, know that Doug's intelligence evidently came from his paternal side! Mama

  17. Thanks for the great addtions mama!

Such good stories. He's a jewel.

  18. Aw Doug, happy birthday. Here's to many more years for one of the nicest guys on the web! xoxo

  19. Forgot to add a lame definition:

Auspicious, adj., Promising future success. As in Doug was an auspicious feature debut. A fortunate event for us all.

  20. Thanks, Actonbell. Shnicks for short. Rhymes with Niks.

    Aral, you bully!

    Thanks, Fred.

Mama, I'm a little concerned you have my login but thanks for using up about six months of storytelling. Now I'm going to have to do something else scandalous.

    Double-thanks, TLP.

    Aw, and thank you, Mireille.

  21. I suppose it should be no suprise that a wonderful man has a wonderful family, whether nuture or nature, they did a great job!
A very happy birthday to you, and keep working on the nature of women, it may not be worth it, but it is a way to pass some time.

    ReplyDelete
  22. well, Doug, it seems you are somewhat critical toward toilet bowls? indeed a jewel! :-D

have the happiest birthday with cakes and candles and more cakes among your cheering family! *kisses and hugs*

  23. Happy birthday, Doug. And Tlp, thank you for giving me a hint;)

  24. Ariella, very nicely said. The mystery about women probably turns out to be no mystery at all, but it should keep a busy brain occupied for quite some time.

  25. See doug evolved due to auspicious circumstances ...there is no intelligent design.

  30. mama, please tell me the exact time the phenomena happened, upto the second. it must be in the medical records. we can then make Doug's Hindu horoscope and chart all the auspicious phases for his future benefit

  31. I think I'm the next one over from the Alice house.
I'm not quite sure what to do here but it looks very interesting and I have to say that I am not surprised she hangs around here.

  33. Wow, y'all/ I feel pretty special.

Thanks, Ariella for the wish and the advice. I guess it can split time with blogging and crossword puzzles.

Thanks, Ariel, and you're a gem.

    Thanks, Graham and welcome.

Welcome and thanks, averagebusinessman. I'll probably be next to read Alice's site and wish myself a happy birthday.

  34. I think the common theme here is:
We all love you and enjoy hanging around on your blog! Happy birthday and a day!

    ReplyDelete
  35. all this beats the other doughboy birthday, no? :P

  37. I'm a day late getting here, but I hope your birthday was a great one. Dougie's Birthday Blog was such an enjoyable read. It is clear that you are loved.
You've been a brainy guy since babyhood. I would kill to see a pic of you with a question mark shaved in your hair. I hope you have that somewhere and will give us the pleasure of a good laugh.
You are nearing 40, so make the most of your thirties while you're still in them. I wish I was still in my thirties.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Doug: Happy Birthday!!!! How could I forget? The pics are so cute and the story is lovely.

Happy Birthday to you and may all your wishes come true :D

  40. Jamie Dawn, you're always on time and I'd have waited rather than pulling you away from your anniversary. I've seen your picture and I know you aren't a day over 30, but thanks for trying.

Thanks, Marwa, and I'm wishing you yours.

Birthday was beyond belief, Asiansmile, thanks for asking. You guys made it that way. And stay tuned for when the real skeletons come out.

Don't know what's left to say except that Alice has enough fake older boyfriends; that I can't believe I was off blogging during your birthday

Hope that you had a wonderful birthday, and all your wishes....

Seriously you have been very inspirational

  42. Not to fear, Pia. You needed the break and I needed a birthday wish on Monday. It all worked out just grand.
