Shahrazade's Wedding, Part V

Because A Thousand and One Nights Are Never Enough

To hear the story, listen to the trees.

To read the story, come to the mountains of Bactria.

A note on sound. I f the audio doesn't play, try a different browser. For some reason I can't play it in Safari but can in firefox. Weird, huh? Alchemy?

  1. Delay: n. The mother of excuses.

I have not delayed in posting this, and therefore I believe I'm first.

  3. No worry, that happens to servers under heavy traffic.

uhwla - Up to hill, Walela!

  4. Couldn't even be first on a day the post wasn't up in time. ;(

Drive careful, and tie up the hitchhikers hands and feet - gently of course.

  6. I thought maybe Ambrose had eaten your blog for today.

Guess I'll go walk Adi while I'm waiting. Maybe we can figure out how to have her picture on my blog for my Sunday message tomorrow.

Drive carefully, if that's possible where you will be going.
At any rate have a nice trip.

    Is Ambrose with you?

  7. I'm trying to reach down deep for some empathy, some understanding, some measure of ... oh, I don't know. Sorry about the six hours of driving. You're gonna be really tired so be careful. xoxo

  8. Does Minka know something the rest of us don't? Be back tomorrow, because later will be too late over here. :)

    DELAY, n.

    1. A politician on the take. (435 guys with the same first name, Tom ...)

    2. For shame, Minka!

    ;)

  11. Minka! I never would have written that! 'Cause I'm too d*mn slow to think of it. *pout*

So, dawg, where ya been and why didn't you fly? And, inquiring minds want to know: Is she cute??

    Verifier: fksuok
And I am not touching that!

Okay, I've cleaned the house and I'm still waiting.

  13. Hobbes, not only are you first on the post but you were 11 hours before the post.

TLP, aren't there some homeless people you could mug?

    Sorry, Actonbell.

Ariel, it was definitely the traffic.

Cooper, any idea how to extract a rubber ball?

OE, I've never seen them do that. Dang you guys are good.

Just damped it up a little, Jim.

    Thank you Mireille.

Minka, more than cute. It was like her horns were made for my hat.

Theresa, who knows what a penguin dreams of?

Thank you, my dysenteric friend. No delayer you.

    Somethin' like that, Morgan.

TLP, hooves were like red alabaster.

    Sorry, Quilly. Still?

No, I did not stay still. I cleaned. I made lunch and then did dishes. I folded and put away the laundry and ironed OC's shirts. I also went swimming and I have begun preparing dinner. You, sir, were very tardy.

Get with child a mandrake root
Tell me where all past years are,

Donne. As in, why isn't the wedding done yet? Why is the mother-in law-stalling? xoxo

  16. Quilly! You IRON? I think I'm in love! What a woman! Can I have you when OC is done with ya?

They should serve peanut butter and Caviar. Always a hit.

I knew that so-called "botanist" was a fraud. Mandragora oceanum, if you please. What you get when you trust somebody who received their degree by taction instead of study. Hmph.

[*mutters* Third-declension neuter Latin noun ... sheesh]

    Everybody say What?!? :P

TLP. Yes she does. No you can't. I don't plan to be done with this one for, oh, at least three decades. Saaareee.

  18. Quilly, do note those were OC's shirts you ironed and OC's dinner you cooked.

Mireille, I don't think she's stalling. I think she wants everything to be perfect on her daughter's special day. A daughter's wedding being her mother's fullest moon.
TLP, I'll have mine without the caviar, I think.

I agree, Actonbell. A dashing word for someone who creeps.

  19. Sorry, Amoeba. Leili thanks you for the correction. It sounded fishy to me too.

  20. Bravo! Story is progressing nicely... The comments section is a little more dubious.

My verifier is xoofh... sounds like I gave someone a kiss and two hugs and then they spit in disgust.

  21. I love the way you included the oak and the linden tree. The myth of Philemon and Baucis is one of my favorites. :)

Doug -- noted. Why do you think he plans on keeping me for 30 or so years? I get the gas tank that never empties and he get's the dinner plate that's always full. The Shah and his bride should take note ....

Btw -- I am thinking that their wedding banquet should include roast mother's-in-law tongue.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Roast MIL's tongue... ha, ha, ha, Quilly.

As long as there's chocolate truffles, all will be well.
Cassim did good. He should get two truffles.

I think they should throw bird seed instead of rice at the ceremony.

  25. Alternatively, AP3, you sucked their teeth crooked, causing a lisp.

Mine too, Theresa. Blessings on the simple folk.

    Scandalous, Quilly! Hmmmmm.

You're right, JD. There should be truffles in case you come to the ceremony.

yeesh -- i came bright and early first thing Saturday morning, and you, my friend, were nowhere to be found. well, "found", but you sure as heck had nothing to say (a little wah wah wah -- i can't load up my story, but that's it).

THEN i tried to come back, to no avail (damn those Rams and their 2-game winning streak!)

finally i had a moment to sit/read/enjoy this chapter in your new and intriguing tale. what can i say -- it was well worth the wait! but then, truly good things always are. ; )
