The word evolved from the expression oy vey and the word, shun.

Oy vey is actually an expression of dismay or unhappiness. Shun is the action of ostracizing a member of a sect, removing them from the in group to the out group.

You see, from the birth of Eve's first child to this very day, shunning is an effective child-rearing discipline. These days we call it time out.

The term "oy vey shun" became a common part of a small Jewish sect's language, and evolved from a negative to a positive, during the escape of the Jews from slavery and their great exodus from Egypt.

Over the course of those forty years spent wondering in the desert, Jewish children, like children the world over, indulged in entertaining themselves by irritating their elders. When one child's misdeeds were greeted with the shout, "Oy vey!" and the order to separate him or herself from polite society, the child would them run off to his or her play group and repeat the tale of his or her shunning, which generally lead to expressions of laughter, approval and praise.

That is how the word took on a positive aspect and became a permanent part of the young people's vocabulary and eventually the vocabulary of all the world.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11152564.post-55717742270158990522008-08-01T08:19:00.000-07:002008-08-01T08:19:00.000-07:00Tibbar, Tibbar, goD,because, if the truth be known...Tibbar, Tibbar, goD,
because, if the truth be known,
i done forgot it was
a fresh new month...

ps, i've been known to hoot, cheer
and clap loudly at plays and
jazz clubs, but i ain't spit,
erupted, or slapped anyone,
at least not yet...javajazzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14519195811911296496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11152564.post-24710494609144934142008-08-01T07:58:00.000-07:002008-08-01T07:58:00.000-07:00Rabbit!
