Irreligion

IRRELIGION, n. The principle one of the great faiths of the world.

2006 Update: Either the national church established in the United States constitution or the form of government enshrined in The Bible, or the faith of scientists, or the currency of international commerce or the instrument of multinational conspiracy. An ideal the adherents to which await the one with authority to explain.

    Artefacted Irreligion

Contained in blood scrawl, compiled evil artifacts.
    Insane instigators of ritualistic pacts.
Necronomicon, bestial methods, age old torrid acts.
If darker side thus beckon, in limbo boundaries must be smashed!

    Delving demonic entrance, connecting incantations.
(you're the) Doorway for unbeings past.

    Induce, recite, summon reprise.
    Bid welcome to Candarian 'Guise.

Possession escalates, your confused eyes revert.
    Senses nulled, inert.

    Induce, recite, summon reprise.
    Bid welcome to Candarian 'Guise.

Your soul now quoshed, with blinded eyes.
    Your grasp impaired enlightenment.

    Demonicus mortal.

Doug, you should make your template look more like a bank's site geez...

    ReplyDelete
  7. As I count it, you offered 6 variations in your multi-definition update there Doug. Personally I liked the first one best, but irregardless (*wince*) you get a *pat pat* for effort in offering not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, but 6 variations. :P

    (TLP - great definition!)

  12. What's going on here? Indie wrote a comment and it came up on my blog! He wrote:

Irreligion: That which is easy to believe in.

I'm not Doug. I am the Walrus!

  13. Ariel, religion is a trap for science and visa-versa, probably. Why a bank's site? Did you have a deposit to make?

Cowgirl, a lot of rules get relaxed for choir members.

Sar, I like to think of this site as the Ginsu knife set of satire.

Jodes, you mean apostasy lost you?

Kyahgirl, Jesus is on the mainline, tell him what you want.

Let 'em have it, Soapy. She is risen indeed! (Aral I love what you did the avatar! Too funny!)

    Haha, Devil. Pthbt!

    Koo Koo k-choo, Icy!

O Ceallaigh, then what do you call government grants and peer review?

  16. Dang it Doug, you took all the good ones!
The idiot is repeating himself and Soapy is risen, she is risen indeed.

That is enough to make anyone start with the irreligion.

  17. What is going on with my comments!?!? It must be a miracle! Little Bar of Soap is alive again, too! Thanks Icy for fetching my comment over here.

  19. alright, I'm back, IRRELIGON explained according to a spectroscopist (me):

    IR=infrared

Infrared is the region of the electromagnetic spectrum where the energy associated with molecular vibrations and rotations lies.
Every configuration of atoms bonded together has a unique energy level for different types of vibrations.
By studying the interaction of molecules with IR light, the spectroscopist can determine what kinds of bonds are present, and, figure out what molecules are present.

You can't see the molecules, the bonds, the atoms, or the energy but you can believe they are there.

    I believe.

    The religion of IR.

    Amen

    irreligion:
I think it is what lost the democrats the election last time around.

    Love tlp's definition.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous9:47 AM

Nobody could top your definition Doug--seriously thinking of putting it on a sidebar--it's that great

Should be spread around. A lot of people will believe the first part, or do already

Of course would ask permission--and give credit

    ReplyDelete
  22. Doug, I got dizzy reading your definition(s).

    LBOS is BAaaaaaaaCK??!!?? Praise Jesus!

Irreligion: This really is all there is. "Let's break out the booze and have a ball!"

  23. Anonymous10:03 AM

what do you call government grants and peer review?

The American Inquisition. At least in the years BB (Before Bush); in TBE (The Bush Era), it moved to Guantanamo.

Kyah, I didn't know Doug allowed physicists on this site. Does your IRreligion have an NMR Dogma? At least mine doesn't have pointy ears.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Village Idiot, you can say that again, nyuck nyuck, nyuck.

    Amen, Reverend Logo

Indie, I'm sure it's blogger's fault, speaking of irreligion.

    Ecstacy, Masil.

    Kyahgirl, I'm more of a c13-NMR guy.

    Alice, that's fantastic.

    Pia, thanks. No rights reserved.

Jamie Dawn, that sounds like Oktoberfest at a Lutheran church.

O Ceallaigh, you stole my line. And I think she's a chemist. I like chemists.

  25. Came back, still completely un-inspired ..I need my muse to hit me in the back of the head with a 2x4 and if that doesn't work, up it to a 2x8

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous10:45 AM

Lets just start with the 2x8, shall we?

  27. Doug, I am sorry. I will not be able to participate today, I have a headache!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Irreligion...does it have something to do with irrigation?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Please, I'm not sure an inspired is a good thing. Stick around. I like to think of this site as analgesic.

Logo, I kind of had you figured as a big-board gal.

More than a few things, Mutha.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I believe there's been a mistake; I'M the Walrus...

Sar, great minds... "irregardless" (sic!!!) popped into my head right away, too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Mutha asked, "Irreligion...does it have something to do with irrigation?"

Only if it is not holy ground.

  33. Aral, you were the walrus.

Jamie Dawn, I'm really glad you made that clear. No more pissing in the graveyard!

Jenna, you have a plan. You've got me licked right there.

  40. Anonymous12:56 PM

Plan? (looks around nervously) What plan? I don't have no stinkin' plan. Nope.

And Doug no one mentioned anything about licking. This is a family blog as you keep telling me. My licking takes place elsewhere.

O: it's all about the bait, baby.;)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Minka, there's no-one I'd rather see with the honor of being number 37. Please, continue at your leisure.

O Ceallaigh, keep drawing until you get arbamep

Exhale, Whinger, the word was Irreligion. Or the dollar.

Give us this week our weekly oatmeal, Minka?

Yeah, Jenna, remember the condo and the job, the foreign shore and the Spanish men? It's on your blog, I'm not telling secrets out of class am I?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous1:24 PM

Oh. That plan. I thought you meant the other plan. That one's still a secret huh? Phew.

    ReplyDelete
  43. C13 NMR? gosh Doug, you are a dawg that gets around. :-)
NMR's ok, but I'm still enamored of the vibratin', rotatin', rockin' bonds in IR.

BTW, I'm glad you like chemists, I'll keep hanging around here, spouting my religion!!

O'Ceallaigh-no NMR dogma in my religion but maybe a bit of UV and NIR. Either end of the spectrum so to speak.

    ReplyDelete
  44. irreligion... is being tardy a part of that? So late to the party and off I jet to bed...

    Hola y buenas noches!

I CANNOT not check in, sabes?

Hey Jenna... did you hear me in the previous post? When are YOU going to be the next Wednesday guest? HINT, HINT and come on people, there is much coaxing to be done as I catch my zzzzzz's!

  48. No, Jenna, we know about the pail of jello on top of the door, too.

Kyahgirl, this Dawg did a lot of typing of grad school Chem papers. I may not know how to characterize a hydrocarbon moiety to save my live but I can draw it. It's good to hear you're so multicultural.

    ¡Claro que no, Miz B!

Idiot, my advice is run slow.

    Minka, shuuddalopowow

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous4:18 PM

The jello isn't on top of my door, Doug. ;) oops. I just gave away a clue! Gasp.

  50. Anonymous4:45 PM

Last time. Will not add links for the page to screw up this time. Note to Blogger - put an edit function on this *&%#*^ comment tool!!

kyah - I don't know about all this ecumenicalism in scientific irreligion. Next thing I know, you'll be running an open and affirming facility. You might get your funding redirected to a more narrowly focused faith-based spectrum, if you're not careful.

That's NIR, not MIR, right? As in the old Russian spacecraft that couldn't quite get its docking procedures right?

To steer a MIR you really need a beer. Objects in MIR are closer than they appear!

(respectfully stolen from the 1998 Capitol Steps collection - sung to The Rain in Spain - www.capsteps.com)

Jenna. Jello? Don't make me go over there. Is it spring yet?

  55. Good golly! I'm back for thirds.
I usually don't get back here more than once or twice a day, and now that I'm here, I don't have a thing to say.
    Oh! I know!

    I shall pen a haiku:

    Irreligious man
Walks in a bar without guilt
    Lightning strikes him dead

    Selah.

  56. Dang Jamie Dawn. That is good stuff.

  57. Tis what they call my following, of course.

  58. I'm an acolyte, Actonbell, but no truster of Priests. I'll use irregardless regardless of Merriam-Webster's advice.

Jenna, are you being a trollop again?

O Ceallaigh, maybe you and Kyahgirl could collaborate on a faith-based Algae spectroscopy grant.

Shayna, you should know you're never #2. There is no test.

Manchego, welcome back. Did you post? Irreverent irrelevance is far likelier, I think.

OK, but you got Actonbell's approval so I'll defer.

Mireille, when the guy with the paint and stencil shows up, just let him in. Itl'l go easier on us all.

Jamie Dawn, that's terrific. So glad you came back. Selah and Amen.

    Wasn't it, Mutha?

Thanks for the suggestion about the grant. You're not trying to get rid of your two nerds are you? We could be gone for a long time working on a grant like that.

(Sorry O'Ceillaigh, I call em like I see em!)

  64. Jamie Dawn, you are very welcome. Wow, 71 frickin' comments! Thank YOU!!!

Kyahgirl, I hope you're adding a sustainability line item for the grantsuggester. This would be a sorry space with no nerds.
