I think trust makes us selfish.

A little given is a little received.
We can love and not expect to be loved in return although we want it.
Trust though. That's a give-give take situation. It's why it hurts so much when it is broken. And hurts so much when it is given.
It takes courage to say "trust me". And it takes courage for the other party to say yes. That's what makes it so scary.
Trust. It's what it all comes down to, isn't it? Very, very scary. But so very, very worth it.

Ever wonder how In God We Trust managed to show up on the coinage of a nation with a strict separation of church and state? Salmon Chase would have fit right in with the Bush Administration. Except that he had too much in the "brain" department. Maybe he would have been Colin Powell.

Ok, several years ago I bought my parents a book, a biography of Mother Theresa. I started reading it in the bookstore and kind of got engrossed. Ok, I read the whole thing before I gave it to them! Why do I feel compelled to confess my sins to you people?

Good definition Doug!!! I'm not coming up with much but the words optimistic, ignorance, and unicorns keeps popping into my head. I'm not sure what all that means but it seems pretty profound.

ReplyDeleteWhenever we trust, we open ourselves up for disappointment. If we trust nothing and no one, we never experience true intimacy. What a quandary.
