    deny: disinclination to acquiesce.

what? having been denied adequate sleep and/or caffeine... a variation of a movie line is the best i can do for now.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Minka, excellent example and well done being first.

S.A.C.A.D.A., nice photo. You look like a young man with a lot of promise. Fingers uncrossed.

Puppybrose, your righteous indignation has been duly noted now sit down.

Brian, I'm inclined to deny the falsehood of the allegations as well.

  4. Deny: Refusing to inhale despite all evidence to the contrary.

  5. Shamrock: Interesting twist -- the denial of one's genetals to the camera's eye and to innocent fellow player's contact.

  6. It wasn't me.
    No,no child, it wasn't me.
Oh it must have some other body
No no child it wasn't me.

Hasn't this word been here before?

There is something pagan in me that I cannot shake off. In short, I deny nothing, but doubt everything.
    Lord Byron

Lord Byron's doubt would certainly put him in disfavor with the Dalai BoBo...and his pal Buddha.

is it just me? am i the only one being denied the right to see teh Penguin's comment? have i gone blind? out of my mind?

woe is me... first i'm denied sleep and/or aforementioned caffeine. now random comments. is that how it's gonna be?

oh, and did i detect a note of testiness in your voice, sonny? mind your manners or i'm likely to deny you the pleasure of my company for the rest of the day. *sulks*

  9. Depressing stuff, denial. I refuse to play today. I'm repulsed by being denied.

Deny: the good ol' shuffle-ball-side-step routine.

  11. deny: v. the act of proclaiming ones innocence in such a manner that the press and public believe them, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. It has become an American tradition to reward those most skilled in denial political office. [insert pictures of Presidents Junior Bush and Clinton here]

Deny? What? I didn't do it.

    Shamrock did.

  13. It wasn't me, the cat did it!

  14. DENY, v.

    1. To sell Al down the river.

    2. To warn the agent truly responsible for the operation to go to deep cover. Now.

    3. To protect oneself against irate, or tardy, penguins.

Heard Saturday on a rerun of Prairie Home Companion:

    "What's gray?"

    "A melted penguin."

  15. Deny: To knee-jerk is to follow aerobics for politicians, but to deny is to speak their language.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And, I can't deny, a few thoughts spring to mind with today's word, like...

One should never have to deny themselves the pleasures life affords, like trips to the spa and new shoes!

    and

I'm happy to see the Emmy's did not deny but instead rightfully awarded my beloved 24 and Jack Bauer last night.

*sticks out tongue* I did not! It's all Shamrock's fault. I mean look at his avatar! He's gotta gun! Doug, it wasn't me!

And he pinched me first. Right...gasp...there! He did it again!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thanks, Shamrock. I did not know that. For the teenagers who sometimes visit, let's bleach the language a little. Maybe "pecker sweater?"

Miz B, you are a pioneer.

Mutha, why was the previous President also on my mind. See "I did not have relations with that woman" or "We have no weapons of mass destruction." And there are no innocent actors, just excellent ones.

g, but mommy it couldn't be me. I was outside watching tv. Or in my room playing football. My game boy keeps me from fault.

Joel, That crazy Lord Byron! At some point I need to share the story of "Byroniquero."

Puppybrose, I would no more be testy than the sun would rise in the West, I'm pretty sure. I suspect what you are seeing is Minka's definition of "Deny." Or maybe she broke her typing finger while washing her hands.

TLP, you may not have the day off.

Puppy, or a blocked shot. See Shamrock's definition above.

Quilldancer, whose idea was that tradition, anyhow?

Jenna, Shamrock! Do I have to separate you two? Pinch nicely.

Of course it was, Icy. Good girl!

O Ceallaigh, I live from one year to the next hoping to hear the next Prairie Home joke show. I heard that line and had the same thought you did.

Sar, nice and topical! An upgrade to be sure from my definition, although a downgrade from nice and tropical.

    Karma, wiggle again, please.

Jenna, this is your last warning. It's not too late to turn around.

    ReplyDelete
  20. To Deny is to, well,
really it depends on what your definition of 'is' is.

Until confronted by irrefutable proof, we will continue to deny everything, once the proof is presented, we will explain how it actually supports us or was generated merely to deceive others and make us look bad.

    Deny:

    "I am not a crook."
"I did not have sex with that woman."
"Follow me around. I don't care. I'm serious. If anybody wants to put a tail on me, go ahead. They'll be very bored."

Everybody will know the first two...remember who uttered the third?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Logo, everyone knows the definition of is is isn't.

    Mireille, are you serious?

    The donkey, Joel?

Joel: #3 = the lame duck/dumb *duck*, Gary Hart.

  28. Deny: What some one argue is always worth a try.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i DID NOT make you do it, Icy!!

Deny? I don't have that word in MY dictionary!

    ReplyDelete
  30. OC...I am not sure I like that joke. take it back!

Puppytoes, I was first but denied a definition. How strong am I?

    Doug, ah...nevermind!

    ReplyDelete
  31. A fault once denied is twice commmitted.
~ No idea who said this.

    Deny: a poorly executed lie.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You deny my day off? Hrmpf

I will not play the blame game. It's not me. It's you. It's all in your head.

    ReplyDelete
  33. hmmm...

So would confirm mean something similar to deny?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Talk to Garrison Keillor, Minka. I deny all responsibility. From my fortress in Cairo, overlooking the water.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ariel, only in the good.

Pia, your table is always waiting here.

Puppybrose, you meant to rhyme "duck" with "cluck," right?

Well done, Mireille. You still haven't gotten over the Hartache, have you?

Mutha, my mother's 38-year-old has the same instinct, well reinforced.

Anomie, I think in that context it means "to forgo ESL lessons."

Chatham, that's what they all say. How's the couch, by the way?

Minka, and to think the author of that joke was in Reykjavik a few months back. You might have protested then before it was too late. Please control your temper, now that we know what happens to Penguins when they get hot.

Solace, whoever said that should step forward and admit it.

TLP, if it's in my head it's mighty lonesome.

    Zenfo, welcome. You're getting it.

O Ceallaigh, is the Ionic Sea as blue as they say?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Doug, it will if the copper content is high. It will be rusty-colored, though, if it's mostly ferric ion (the Ironic Sea).

I do know this, the view of de Nile will give you the blues. Especially if it's green like the Danube.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. that's true, Danube isn't blue but green, brown, yellow, ochre and lots of other colours but not blue.

    ReplyDelete
  38. State of Denial = Bush Administration

    ReplyDelete
  39. Here's how the denial scenario plays out at my house:

    1. A loud crash is heard, followed by "It WASN'T me!!!!!"

    2. A horrid odor spreads throughout the car, followed by "It WASN'T me!!!!!"

    You get the picture.

VERY sad news for our family today. Our dear old Simba, our beloved dog, died this morning. We are all heartbroken. We are grateful to have had such a wonderful dog in our family. I will post about her this week. She deserves a fine tribute.

  40. Note to Ariel - you are responsible for tomorrow's post at Felloffatruck Publications on the blue ... er, green ... er, brown ... er, whatever! Danube. Do not deny it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. O Ceallaigh, that was brilliant.

Ariel, does the gray come from melting penguins? I like the new avatar. Are you a dancer or a diver or are you just trying to make Minka feel bad?

Karen, it's good to see you back and I betcha TLP will be glad too.

So sorry, Jamie Dawn. You know how sincere my condolences are.

O Ceallaigh, you still have that thing?

Jenna, are you calling Shamrock a liar?

    ReplyDelete

    I see my life
    Flowing dreams
    With your eyes they see
The love in you and me
    Peaceful dreams
    Live in you
    Besides the things we hold
    Dear in our hearts
    Fear it brings
    Faith in unseen
    Living in as one
The difference in you and me

    In my eyes
    Through the sky
    You and I yeah
    Don't deny
    You will find
    The time to unwind

    Please your mind
    It heals my love
    Forever together you
    Distant times
    That bring me down
    With your love I rise
    Forever together you

    In my eyes
    Through the sky
    You and I yeah
    Don't deny
    You will find
    The time to unwind

    Yeah
    Yeah
    You will find
    You will find
    The time to unwind

OC, I'm very honoured to do tomorrow's post to dear FP guys, they have whiskey and good music or am I on the wrong place?

Doug, among the many things I am not, I am not a dancer, nor a diver, and I am not trying to make anyone bad but in all those months I've been watching that photo, I fell in love with it. I found it pretty silly at first sight, though.

    Ariel

  54. Jamie, I'm so sad to hear you lost Simba. I can feel your pain.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Here I was thinking of something typically smart-assy to say and I hear the sad news of Jamie's dog. So I will simply say, my sympathies to Jamie and her family. It is always hard to lose our furry friends.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Puppybrose, by Daniel you mean a lion's den?

Actonbell, there is no statute of limitations in the family, is there? During my mom's current visit I was just accused of a crime I committed in 1984, which I, of course, denied.

Kyahgirl, and I can't deny myself the pleasure of a dog's praise.

Terry, the picture of it is sure innocent.

Quilldancer, a river river in Egypt that floods every four four years in the United States.

Thanks, VI. It's Tuesday here, where's the wit?

Jenna, don't take that tone with me, young lady. You're not too big to put over my knee.

    Cooper, I deny nothing!

Puppybrose, I've put it behind me.

Shayna, as lovely as always as the transcriptionist.

    Well, Ariel, pretty feet anyway.

Well, welcome, Cheesemeister. I know it's a hard thing to hear. Jamie Dawn and the family will be in all of our thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  57. not mine, Doug.

Jenna, congrats! for the first time in the history someone makes our host consider putting one of his female guests over his knee. I must not miss it...
