  6. Isn't the Abbess the head nun who sings Climb Every Mountain?
You can't be an Abbess if you're tone deaf or happen to be a contralto.

    :-)

    Bless you.

  8. Glad you brought it up. Most religious say, "your father this, your father that", but what about the mother? It is ok that the father made the universe but someone had to give a birth to it, right?

  9. Abbess: The word reminds me of the "Father, I have sinned" jokes.

Abbess: "Abbess, I have sinned greatly," he said. The abbess looked at him knowingly saying in a 'yes, and tell me more dear lad' voice ...

ab: prefix meaning "below, under, following".

ess: phonetic spelling for the 19th letter of the English alphabet.

    Therefore:

ABBESS, n. T. Served an hour before vespers, dear. Pray join us.

  12. Bear, dictophagy is heresy.

Terry, I remember her. That there is a woman I could love.

Nice, Hildegard. You were always one of my favorites, eating disorder and all.

    Clever, ahsmirak.

JD, wouldn't a contralto abbess be an abbot?

    Abcess, right TLP.

Ariel, I think we were hatched.

Jim, I understand that confession is good for the soul but it drove Luther nuts and would have me.

Haha, Cooper. Two good puns on one post. This is very unusual.

Nice, Amoeba. Will there be elephants?

  14. I was thinking if dogs could be nuns, what breed would be the abbess? At first I though may Pit Bull. But maybe more like a border collie that herds sheep.
