Blank-verse

BLANK-VERSE, n. Unrhymed iambic pentameters — the most difficult kind of English verse to write acceptably; a kind, therefore, much affected by those who cannot acceptably write any kind.

2009 Update: Verse, for a blank reader.

    BLANK-VERSE, n.

    1. Poetry that is noisy but without significance. Verse with live ammunition has far greater impact.

    2. Western poetry in general.

I learned from Harry Turtledove that, in Dutch and Afrikaans, a person of European ethnicity is a blank. Talk about rubbing salt into the wound ...

    Verse,
    without rhyme,
    is just good prose broken,
    into
    iiny
    bits.

    Or not.
    The verifier claims
    I am
    a
    Dimwit.

  7. I'm drawing a blank on this.

I don't know which is verse, having nothing to say, or saying it anyway.

  8. Blank Verse - That inevitable comment always left by our own Javajazz - she has her masters degree in it.

  9. Blank-Verse:
Without rhyme and often without reason.

    Here's my blank-verse offering:

    Chocolate, so good and sweet.
    It is my weakness.
    The Steelers won
By the skin of their teeth.
    I would be willing
    To eat a whalligator
    Dipped in chocolate.
    Or even a basilisk.
    It is raining.
    Not cats and dogs
    or even chocolate.
    Just water.
    Selah.

Pia, I think your prose is blank verse.

Great quotes, Bear. May your ...

Why rub salt into people who need pepper, Amoeba?

Jim, you're just a sensitive fellow.

    Quilly, I must take
    Issue with
    Dimwit. You are more haiku.

    Saying it,
    Anyway
    TLP.

Terry, an honorary doctorate would barely do justice.

And yea, though I walk through the valley of death, I shall fear no Truffle, for Jamie Dawn is with me.

    Ariel, you spin the disks?

Karma, I was waiting for you with that one.

    Sorry, blogmama. I was traveling.

Quilly, you are such a schoolmarm.

  14. Yes the verse is the interpreter, consequently there are a lot of black verses out there.

  15. Be it syllabic, accentual, quantitative,
    or syllabic-accentual debilitative,
Be it in iambs or strophes or dactyls
    or spontaneous Pyrrhic dithyrambs,
    In feet, or hobbling spondaically
    Only a troll Trochaic
    Would resort to rhyme archaic.
