Berenice's Hair

BERENICE'S HAIR, n. A constellation (Coma Berenices) named in honor of one who sacrificed her hair to save her husband.
Her locks an ancient lady gave
Her loving husband's life to save;
And men — they honored so the dame —
Upon some stars bestowed her name.

But to our modern married fair,
Who'd give their lords to save their hair,
No stellar recognition's given.
There are not stars enough in heaven.

    a lie told
    to protect
    that which was
    stole

    fun how a
    little lie
    takes on
    a life of
    own

    peace...

  2. I know some kids who shaved their heads last year in solidarity with a friend who lost hers to chemo.
If only it were that easy to save someone.

  3. I can tell that Anonymous...knows one of the Icelandic Sagas. That Husband was not so lucky to have a wife like Berenice. "Vengeance thy name is Woman"

"Look, dude! Up in the sky! It's a bird!"

    "It's a plane!"

    "It's ... a hank of hair?"

    "Eww, dude."

    "What's the eww for?"

"Let me put it to you this way, dude. We get a freak snowstorm anytime soon, we'll know where it came from. And what it's made of."

    "Ewww ..."

  6. Thanks, Doug. If I was smart enough to find that constellation I would go out and look for it tonight!

  11. I agree with TLP. Plus, sacrificing teeth or boobs would have made the saved husband to look for another wife as soon as he's back. It is not easy to save men...

  12. It's true, Bear. The truth can get you into heaven while I lie gets you the stars.

That was good of them, Logo.

Mo'a, Anonymous is one of your countryfolk in two countries.

Thom, I can kind of see how you got there.

    Amoeba, I second the ewww.

Sorry about yesterday, Jim. I woke up in a hotel next to a feedlot in Hanford, CA. I'm not sure whether or not that counts as "ok."

Quilly, I did. Let's just come right out with it, Amoeba was talking about stellar dandruff.

I'm excluded too, TLP, more and more.

Cooper, you were so smart before you started learning over here and at Georgetown. I almost regret my part.

    Hahaha, Ariel!
