Meekness

Meekness, n. Uncommon patience in planning a revenge that is worthwhile.
M is for Moses,
Who slew the Egyptian.
As sweet as a rose is
The Meekness of Moses.
No monument shows his
Post-mortem inscription,
But M is for Moses,
Who slew the Egyptian.
-The Biographical Alphabet

2006 Update: A king's reluctance, a pauper's repentence, the mask on an assassin, the tail on an ambitious dog and the satisfaction of a serpent.

M is also for Malthus, but blessed are the meek anyway

meekness hot coals upon the head of thine enemy (which is indeed a subtle and sweet revenge).

Very unoriginal on my part today - The meek shall inherit the Earth. What DOES that mean anyway?

Meekness - inhibited, shy, quiet.

That's all I got. I'm gonna sit back and watch the action now. D :)

Meekness: not for the faint of heart.

Good one O Ceallaigh! Very nice.

I understand this word so well, because I am so meek myself! I say this in all modesty because meekness is a lowly virtue. Of course I'm not cowed or submissive or self-effacing. But I've a mild and gentle temperament...er... or not so much.
Excuse me while I tiptoe out here. I think I read the word wrong. Was that meek? Does it rhyme with geek?

You know, Al. If someone had asked me if you played cards I'd have had to admit I don't but know, but that's the way to bet.

Funny, OC. A continent can be such a useful resource.

Scented beads? Does Dewy have a new boyfriend?

For they shall be yummy, Karma.

Quill, especially if you drop tarragon on them first. Such a blend.

Diane, I think it means let them eat dirt in the modern usage.

G, or the timid of spirit.

TLP, you are such a shrinking violet. It's cute, really.

I have nothing to add. Meek was pretty much the antithesis of what made
for 2006.

I hope you had a great Christmas, Doug:)

It's amazing, how I can mess up links like that...
MEEK is the antithesis of what made Merriam-Webster's TOP 10 WORD LIST.

there.

Meekness is the opposite of moi. I think Miss Piggy said words to that affect. No new boyfriend, only you. ;)

Good morning,
I am here, let the frivolities begin.

Here,
"The ideal state is meekness, or humility, or the semi-invalid state of the old. Year after year I am becoming nobler and nobler. If I can live to be decrepit e nough, I shall be a saint."

Meekness: not saying that Doug can sling words together and make them sound oh so meaningful.

Your definition is like reading a very beautiful poem. It's one of my ten personal favorites. I can't remember the other nine but I'm sure....

Meekness: Reading a blog, but never commenting.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

O Kelly: At least they weren't re-gifting, which is an unforgiveable sin, according to a certain Seinfeld episode.

Moses was NOT meek. He stuttered some, but I recall him saying loudly to Yul Brynner, "Let my people GO!" AND Yul let them go.

Blessed are the meek for they shall be trampled in the return lines and mocked for purple colored hair and overcome their timidity by writing better definitions than Bierce on their website entitiled Waking Ambrose.

Doug has purple hair?

Mean little animals whose coats are used to make fuzzy outerwear. However, I am not in favor of hunting or farming them. Only people who live in Arctic regions can be forgiven for wearing them. Because the meek died that they might live. xoxo

I´ve got nothing.
Well I do, anyone up for a game of scrabble and some really delicious Icelandic cakes?
Sorry but my mind draws blanks whenever serious thought is involved around this time of year.
It is a pretty mind though, mind you!

[Raising hand] I'll play, Minka.

I keep popping back by to make sure the page is still here. I haven't quite recovered from yesterday's shock.

Thank's Actonbell. That's quite a list and a good measure of the state of the union. Bummer.

Dewy, I've noticed you're an extrovert, especially be the standards of people who live in other people.

Logo, that's a beautiful quote.

Pia, can you remember the least favorite? Thank you, by the way.

Indie, what about a troll under a bridge?

Jamie Dawn, sounds like we're in it together. I'll take those odds. Yul Brynner was such a wimp.

Quill, now that Jamie Dawn's back to blogging you can get the story and meet someone you'll really like at the same time. The link's on the right.

Mireille, are you still talking about children?

Minka, the rest of us are faking it. Thank you for your meek candor.

Sorry about that, Quill. I don't think I caused the problem, but I'm watching today.

Brian, that was a soft pitch high-center, but I think I'll take the strike.

Actually Doug, I thought you were being reverant and honoring a holiday yesterday. The wheels always spinning usually to some half-baked conclusion.

Sar said...

Oooh, Bravo OC & Indie!

Minka, can I get some Icelandic cake to go and take a raincheck on the game? I must run as my family room is needing to be rescued from the fallout of Christmas.

And a *wave* doubling as hello! & ciao for now! to our beloved curmudgeonly host and fellow blogger buddies.

Meekness: I got nothing.

Meekness: demeanor of one unfamiliar with and/or fearful of his/her own strength; stifling one's inner roar.

Gee puppy, you took the words right out of my mouth. :)

Doug,

This is one of the few places where I feel safe commenting. Thank you.

G, it's just plain natural to assume I'm being reverent. Sorry if I let you down this once.

Sar, If you've got nothing I bet you inherited it.

Doesn't distract me, CA.

Puppytoes, I'm not sure you're an expert on that but I'll take your word for it.

Thanks, Dewy. If their tolerance for sarcasm is high, everyone is safe here.

It's 7:41 AM. No new post. You've started sleeping at night, haven't you? That's pretty bold actually.

Doug The Una said...

Goldennib, that was well done.

Squaregirl, I think you're up to the challenge. I have every confidence.

Poobah, it is probably the most misallocated resource after oxygen. You're right.

Alice, let it all out. I'm a loyal friend.

Miz B, what's the word for the opposite? OCDish?

TLP, sorry, it takes a while to do the guest posts and I didn't get this one done in advance. A thousand lashes this time?
