Because A Thousand and One Nights Are Never Enough
To hear the story, listen to the old woman.
To read the story, look in the plant book of legend.

Good morning! OF course, I've not been to bed yet .. well, in truth I did have a nap ....
I haven't. And for all the good it did me, I'm second.
She pressed her bony hand on Leili’s forEhead (NB) until Leili felt science magically fill her skull.
Where in pluperfect hell was this woman when I needed her, thirty-two years ago? I could've saved five years and a bundle on tuition and opportunity costs.
...the secret lives of plants that, by root, pollen and perfume persuade their neighbor... There, again, are so many lines I would love to plagiarize. In fact, I will, as soon as a decent interval has passed. This is really good, D. xoxo
"My father had a farm and kept a trading post for merchants on the great silk road who couldn’t tell north from south, morning from dawn and who, therefore, were lost enough to come upon our place. My childhood was happy among the misplaced and perplexed."
is my favorite line. I loved your voice for the crone and I agree with the rest above...keep this going!
"The princess then burst outside, filled with a botanist’s certainty to gather the men for the long trip to the mountains of Bactria..." was a very close second!
Ah, if only studying science really did seem that beautiful and magical! My take on science has always been that I've learned some cool triva throughout having various science classes shoved down my throat in order to, say, graduate high school, but other than that, science sucks.
Such filthy language going on in these comments!! It reminds me of the time my Gramillo said, "DAMN" when something hit the roof of her car, and then my little brother (about 4 yrs old at the time), said, "Say it again, Gramillo. Say it again!!" So, let the shit continue to fly. But, I digress...
I sure wish that old crone would lay her hand on my forehead... several times.
Strange men from strange lands, all fairly slow... How did you know about my male relatives emigrating from Lithuania in the early 20th century?? Only joking. My great grandfather was, at any rate, a very smart businessman and I assume his brothers were no slouches either. They must be rolling over in their graves at my lack of business sense, or any other kind of sense either!

HAving gotten "first" out of the way, I went to read the prose and found it quite lovely.
Bullpucky n. verbal fertilizer used by merchants to make their coffers blossom green.

FERTILIZER, n. Piled higher and deeper.
Quilly, thank you and Bullpucky makes a fine word for today. Any today.
Amoeba, Bene noted and corrected, thank you. I'm guessing she was working at a florist shop.

TLP, happens all the time.
Thanks, Actnbell. Veterinary science and aromatherapy?
Fair enough Mireille, considering The Secret Life of Plants was hoisted from Stevie Wonder. And thank you.
Fertilizer: One man's shit, and another man's crop food. The story is coming along nicely, I'll be back for more.

To be continued??? Awwww....
Okay, so I've missed ya! :)
I am fond of this episode. Despite the nasty language of your fans.
I admire the prose and could never work so hard, or know so much, to be able to write such a potential masterpiece....
No sh*t, great story. I have a soft spot for Mongols.
For some reason the sound quality is faltering on my end.
'morning, Pascover! I brought a calculator to help you to count the candles on your cake. *runs*
The magic word for today, Dawg, is:
LBAF
And it's an official holiday, too. You got powers you ain't tellin' us about ...?
Wow! Most of the world is celebrating today. You are one important Dawg.
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, du klappstuehliges Mondei!
Happy Birthday!!!! OLD man Doug!
Thanks, Theresa. Admirable definition.
Thanks, Minka. It occurs to me your favorite two lines combined are about the length of the stories I started with here.
Lily, try a class with Amoeba. My understanding is he lectures through a trumpet.
Jamie Dawn, if you had to choose between her and Ernest Angley which would you have lay hands on you? It does grow wings around here, doesn't it?
Nice to see you, Shayna, and back at your microphone.
Don't be silly, Cooper. You have talent and youth. You may not have enough free time at the moment.
Mule, sorry about the sound quality. I like Mongols, too. I'm supposed to be a 16th of one, I think.
Ariel, does it do exponents? (Thank you)
Amoeba, I must. What's an LBAF?
Quilly, my heart is pure-ish.
Thank you, Actonbell.
Vielen Dank, kleine klotzige voegelein!
Eeh? Sis, is that you?
