Reminiscence

REMINISCENCE, n.  The chief luxury of the unfortunate.

2008 Update:  The mining of fantasy for the smelter of history.  SEE ALSO: FANTASY, HISTORY.

If I can step out of character here for a day, it is the third anniversary of this here blog.  My deep appreciation to all of you who have made this so much fun to do and so pleasant to overdo.

Thanks to all of you who entertained me and each other during my time off the blog.  Special appreciation to Ariel who was Lazlo to the Waking Ambrose Resistance Movement and to Jamie Dawn who kept a word a day in front of you while I was being more concise.  Pia, your new home is ready, magnificent, sturdy, spacious and convenient to drinking and gambling.  Also, in Africa.  Enjoy and stay in touch.

Now, looking forward, a couple items of avocational business.  I expect that for the next four weeks, I will continue to wake up cranky and empty-headed on Saturday morning and immediately begin pacing until an episode of Shahrazade's Wedding writes itself.  God willing, the creek don't rise and Blogger don't crash, a new series will begin on March 29, with you all doing the reading.  I'm ready to email the first episodes, so please let me know if you're willing to read.  That email again, my first initial and last name at mac.com.  Also, I plan to re-resurrect a The Prattler this Saturday in a new, lazier format.
Great to see you again.  Did you lose some weight?

Happy anniversary, dearest curmudgeon. You've taught us all a lot -- 1) words are not mere playthings, 2)that silver lining has a hole in it, 3)if you've got your health, you probably have good insurance and the state isn't paying for it, 4) there's a pot of beef stew at the end of the rainbow ... oh, so many things. I'm glad you're here. ♥ xoxo

Three years? Just a sign that blogger maintanance is in over it´s head and "Unkraut vergeht nicht!" Seriously, nobody flagged you?

Ok, Renegade... here is to another year living on the edge. May the initial spark of blogging re-capture you and grant us unliscenced venom in complex word formations.

*holds up her Viking horn: Skal!*

Welcome back.

Who is this Doug guy, and what's he doing in Pia's new living room?

Reminiscence n. memories recalled with enhanced joy or sorrow, depending on the desired effect ...

Reminiscence: sections of fabric scraps that are left over from sewing projects. You can make a quilt out of them which will definitely remind you of your life. Some people call these pieces remnants, but what do they know?

Happy third anniversary and happy return! Thanks for noticing the weight loss.

Thanks, G. Try looking back.

I hoped so, Weirsdo. Thank you.

Boy, anyone can improve. I choose not to.

Mireille, imagine my joy at finding beef stew where I thought there's be nothing but some old gold. Stew is very portable if you wear the right pants.

Minka, für daß haben wir blumen. Prost!

Nessa, it's been good hasn't it?

Amoeba, brother, I'm about three stories from bleaching my ears.

And whether you swallowed the worm, Quilly.

TLP, you look great.

Pascover, I try. ;-)

It's funny when you get sentimental. You should do this vacation thing more often!

Three years of gloriousness!!!!
Hooray!!!!!
You have been blogging a bit longer than I, so I consider you my elder.

Welcome back!
The Prattler shall be interesting. I wonder what you have brewing in that fertile mind of yours.
I have never had a post write itself for me. Good luck with that.

Wow three years...that's like 21 in dog years! In 3 years I've killed 3 blogs. So for you to have one going...well done old timer.

Happy Blogversary to you!

And huzzah...Doug's back.

I really liked what TLP said yesterday - about hearing the little clickings of toenails on the floor... a comforting sound.

Welcome back.

Your curmudgeonliness has only gotten better with age after 3 years of blogging - congratulations on a fabulous progression.

thank goodness, Douglas. i've been sulking all this time :(

rujlgs: are you jiggling your legs?

Doug The Una said...

Ariel, I'm not crying. I chopped an onion.

JD, thanks, little lady. I haven't written it yet but I think I'll be cussing the Democratic frontrunner Saturday, so it might be a good week for you to come by Prattler.

Haha, Jenn. Yep, 21 in dog years and an old-looking 81 in blog years. Your new avatar represents your adorability well.

Thanks, Terry. You all keep pulling me along.

Karma, if I'd known you were sulking I'd have confessed some sin and offered my repentance.

Thanks, A-bell! You like the haircut? I think the halter flatters me if I do say so myself.

And may you keep honing your craft for another three years my friend.

Until after Saturday that is, when it is likely I will suffer a momentary fury and decide you need to take a long long vacation. ;)

Happy Day. Three years ...god ..who knew.

They have treatment centers now, for those like us...in Africa, near Pia.

yay! you're so back, Dog!
luckily, because i'm rather old,
time flew, and it seemed like only
4 and a half days or so...
but it still gave me plenty of time
to reminisce about
when you weren't gone...
happy birthblogdog....

Ah the haircut, lovely indeed! Greetings to each pound of you!

why yes, 7 lbs. 5 oz. to be exact. Thanks for noticing. And by the way, where the heck have you been? Your absence has simply been unacceptable!

Jim said...

Hey Doug, Happy Blog Anniversary! I can say that still today because for three years there haven't been any todays.
Just yesterdays or tomorrows. It is Leap Day! The day that often doesn't exist.

Your blog is reminiscent of nine years ago when Mrs. Jim wouldn't marry me! Not in Leap Year!
So I had to wait another whole regular year and now we have been married 35 years of those (re my other blog a few days ago).

I peeked at the Prattler, I shut my political blog down (changed it to Jim's Little Happy Place) almost two years ago. It was worth the flaming I was getting.

Cooper, you might want to wait for next Saturday's Prattler but I still think and will not deny that Obama's an intellect, a good man and I expect him to make a fine President. I think they should open blogger rehab facilities in Darfur. We're really not dangerous.

Thanks, JJ. Good to be back and glad you met us here.

Thanks, Ariel. You don't think it makes me look Chinese?

I know, Alana. You keep absence permissions hoarded in your cave and jealously defend them from adventurers. I bought mine from a troll.

Jim, I never get flamed. My purpose is sarcasm and Biercean hero worship rather than political advocacy. Thank you for the wishes and congratulations on thirty five years.
