Genealogy

2010 Update: An idle sifting through the past for the foundation of a dynamic future.

Interest in genealogy is a mystery to me. If you're a Christian, then you believe that we all go back to Adam and Eve. If you believe in science, then you believe that we all go back to some common early human ancestor.

So, what's all the fuss about? We're all related.

Although I think it's silly to brag about being related to the queen or such, it's perfectly appropriate to crow about being FIRST!

The study of Genes... Uncle Gene, Cousin Gene...

I loved genealogy because I love history -- then it connected me with a whole lot of family I didn't know I had and we're in touch by email. Yes, including many Eugenes who go by Gene LOL

I loved today's entry -- I *do* doubt if any of my ancestors would be half as interested in me as I've been in them!

Major Anthony Nelson would give you an entirely different definition for this word.

Some search engine info:
'10,722 searches for genealogy in a two month period ... [t]he MOST commonly misspelled word [e.i. incorrect], "geneology" was searched for 5988 times! That is over half of the times that the correct spelled word genealogy was.'
..
FYI, I use Google for a spell check. So many times I get "did you mean ... ?
It's fast, cheap, and easy.

Genealogy: The study of whether or not you are likely to be one of those who point out that "geneology" is an incorrect, but much searched, spelling of genealogy.

A young socialist politician of ours had a little speech the other day, he was quoting some Greek philosopher more times, he was only wrong in who said what and when. The writer of the article figured the politician's crew used google when they wrote the speech. Not that any of us noticed, hehe...

Karen, my doll, I told you that I am not going to buy you a ring. I cannot keep you from loving me, though.

Ariel, The Thief,

It will be the Wednesday poems you'll miss the most when this blog shuts up. (Assuming that Doug Drones On stays. If not, the Wednesday poems will be missed only second most.)

Who said that, Dr. Who, the longest-running science fiction television show in the world ?

TO BE honest perfectly honest, dear Ariel, I'm sick to death of this blog. I'm going to find a few news ones to haunt.

TLP, it's a good point. At a megachurch outside Denver, I once heard the case made that the bible is proven because mitochondrial DNA which always comes from the mother shows four more generations to a common ancestor than nuclear DNA which includes a paternal contribution, proving that Noah's three sons and their wives started the current human race.

Susan, I was always pretty sure my family would turn out to be ahistorical if I looked too hard.

Quilly, I think I'll have to trust you on that.

Thom, I have no doubt.

Actobell, if the serpent had thought of weight-loss, the fall would have come several verses earlier.

Karen, I'm gonna guess that's you commenting anonymously. Nobody else has quite your taste for collage.

Jim, Google is efficient for all sorts of things, other than finding information about search terms.

Poobah, light brown hair is recessive, no?

Cooper, busybodiness it definitely genetic and probably x-linked.

Ariel, the fact-checkers use Google too, I guess.

Bear, my family has several trees, too. In fact, we lived in them.
