Redefining misanthropy for a fresh generation. Standard posts begin with a definition from Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary followed by a modern adjustment. Miscellany on Wednesday and storytelling on Saturday.
Impiety ~~ I'll not tell. Did I ever open my eyes and peek around while in group prayer? I'll not tell. Did I ever spit in a church? I'll not tell. That's enough. I just wanted to be first and that is the first stuff that came to mind. Later, ..
Incumbent is an example from April 2010 of a different Waking Ambrose(I) word wherein Jim and I carry on a lively discussion about Arnaud's Restaurant (and Mrs. Jim's relatives all over Louisiana) after I introduced Tempest Nightingale Le Trope (the failed Victorian novelist who fell asleep after pricking her finger on an old spinning wheel while exploring the attic in what was once the Overlook Hotel but became the Netherworld hotel upon imploding into the Netherworld) to the comment board.
For some reason this word reminds that me that there's still June, July and August. And September. And half of October on file. Which just made me sick. Ew.
The Omnipotent Poobah stole my comment. That's what I get for putting church and Bible Study before my visit to Waking Ambrose. Today I could have used a little more impiety -- good thing the lesson was on grace.

Impiety: An example is one of the Three Stooges taking a pie off a window still, where some hapless housewife put it to cool.
Those guys.
Can one have impiety towards atheists?
IMPIETY, n - Seems like this is the word of the day for the current Administration that occupies the White House or perhaps my thinking about it.
Impiety: Putting a whoopee cushion under the Elder's chair in church... guilty as charged

impiety - The state of being without pie.

I just popped over to see if anyone was talking my name in vain.
kisses and waves goodbye
I heard Ozzy singing the other day, laughable and hardly knows what he does but man, his singing still can stop a locomotive. You'd never think.
Good start to it, Jim.
Anonymous thanks for making sure we remember everything about Jim. He's a good man and the better we know him, the better off we are.
Slowly I turned, TLP. Step by step. Inch by inch.
Tempest, absolutely. They can be some of the tetchiest.
Thom, I'm going with your thinking about it.
Terry, was it a sanctified whoopie cushion?
Karen, thanks for keeping track of all this stuff.
Bear, it's a good thing curmudgeons look for provocations instead of truth, no? There's plenty of that around and what you don't find you can imagine.
Poobah, I think that's where TLP was headed, too. Me, I'm headed for pie.
Actonbell, those might be examples, sure.
Karen, I hope you feel better by now.
Quilly, your faith has made you whole.
Ten hut, Cooper.
Ariel, I wouldn't have, nope.
