Pig

PIG, n. An animal (porcus omnivorus) closely allied to the human race by the splendor and vivacity of its appetite, which, however, is inferior in scope, for it sticks at pig.

'The Pig'

The pig, if I am not mistaken,
Supplies us sausage, ham and bacon,
Let others say his heart is big--
I call it stupid of the pig.

I agree with Jim.

E. B. White's (award-winning) Charlotte's Web is about a pig named Wilbur who is saved from being slaughtered by an intelligent spider named Charlotte. The book was first published in 1952 with illustrations by Garth Williams - an American artist who came to prominence in the American postwar era as an illustrator of children's books.

In Stuart Little, Charlotte’s Web, and in the Little House series of books of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Williams' drawings have become inseparable from how we think of those stories.

So sayeth The Great Wikipedia.

Pig, n. that which we are not to cast pearls before -- which leads me to wonder why I am leaving a comment here since you totally ignored my previous one.

Amen to that, Actonbell!

You got it, blogmama.

God bless you, Thom. How many of us will recognize Green Acres?

Sauerkraut, I'm not sure what you're talking about but Sheen's personal life always strikes me, when I have the misfortune to learn of it, as bad comedy.

Thanks, Jim but I can only take credit for googling. I think that's from the original.

Karen, thank you for complimenting my other friends.

And bless you, Cooper, for appreciating Ogden Nash.

Credit where it's due, Actonbell.

Karen, thanks for tracking down the source. Wilson deserves credit.

Quilly, because we are called to be unladen and casting pearls before swine is a good method.

Yup, Ariel.

Um, Karen.
