Righteousness

Righteousness, n. A sturdy virtue that was once found among the Pantidoodles inhabiting the lower part of the peninsula of Oque. Some feeble attempts were made by returned missionaries to introduce it into several European countries, but it appears to have been imperfectly expounded.

What do you know of righteousness?

Doug The Una said...

Thanks, Helen, as are you.

Little Bar of Soap, "So my righteousness will answer for me in time to come, when the subject of my wages comes before you: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the lambs, will be considered stolen, if it is with me."-Genesis 30:33 (NKJV)

the first epistle of James, Chapter 1, verse 20: "for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God." (NKJV)

Righteousness, n. A measure of how right one is in his or her own eyes.

The comments box theology matches that have been occuring on my site are a good example of this curious "righteousness" measured out before us all.

A brief departure from Mark Twain quotes, today I offer for your entertainment a quote from Jules (played by Sam Jackson) in Pulp Fiction:

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

You know, Sar this is the second time you hit a sore spot of mine. Before he says that he claims it's from Ezekiel and it sounds like Ezekiel, but I never could find that quote. I even googled it just now. Anybody know if that's really from scripture? Who's for medicating me?

In all of the dialog we've had, is this really only the second time (granted I don't even remember what the first one was about). The best I could come up with was that it's from "Ezekiel 25:17 among others" (though I'm not sure what "among others" means).

BTW, I see you turned the mirror of irony outwards today and we're all dragons. Do you mean to imply that I'm not a fire breathing, intimadating force to be reckoned with?

Doug The Una said...

Sar, Nena was the first. Always thought she should have been huge. The problem is it isn't from that passage. I'm gonna stomp QT down.

And I didn't reverse the mirror of irony, I inverted it. I'm serious this time.

Sar said...

Yes, I've learned my lesson: never mess with a man's 20+ year obsession. ;)

QT still rules even if he is both a lousy fact checker and a amazing embelisher.

And I'm not sure I follow...are you the dragon or am I? Maybe neither?

Doug The Una said...

I meant I was being serious about the dragons. We're both in here so...meow...that came out wrong.

And I don't appreciate your calling my feelings for Nena an obsession. I've just admired her humanity all this time. That reminds me, time to change the candles.

Doug The Una said...

Now, Trixie from Speed Racer might be an obsession.

Lovin' the new look! Very nice!

Doug The Una said...

Sreekesh, I love the sentence. Don't understand it, but it reads pretty. Is limber a verb?

Thanks, Shellster. It's making me new friends, so I'm glad I did it. Even if I was on the clock at the time.

This is so much easier to read now! I love the new 'do in here :-)

Such fascinating patterns you weave with threads of words.

Jen, thanks. Strangely, I haven't had a haircut in month. Still brushing my teeth for now. You'll know that's stopped when you start seeing ornate frames here.

Icy, I was starting to forget I'd written anything. Good girl!

Doug, I'll be watching. How will I know if you've stopped flossing?

I'll put a picture of my dog in my profile.

Just so you know, Doug, the "Ezekial quote" from Pulp Fiction is erroneous.

It is "ersatz." It does not exist in Ezekial.

Maybe we could get a reality show going where we vote it in?

Thanks, Gabriel. I thought so. It was a well-done forgery, though. A lot of that book sounds like that quote. It pays to have a recovering Pentecostal for a reader.

CA, you make it sound so subjective!
