Admiration
Admiration, n. Our polite recognition of another's resemblance to ourselves.
2007 Update: A soft mold for bronzing of a wax likeness.
were it not for my membership in teh "mutual admiration society" i hope i share with a certain Penguin, i believe my ass would soon be in teh wax mold of a sling.
admiration: the sudden cognition of a quality in others we lack ourselves; nothing short of jealousy-although more nicely wrapped
*smiles at puppy* I admire that you kaboomed yourself into first spot, although I´d rather be there myself. For we can only truly admire what we deem desirable for ourselves.
admiration: now see the power of suggestion - instead of "Leave your comment", I just read it as "Love your comment". I do admire both Bierce's and your update today.
Admiration: non-inclination to define and/or label something as "suck". (oh, how i admire Actonbell for her clever take on that word)
*smiles back at lovely Penguin* thank you, my friend! i suppose being "first" was my reward for getting up extra-early in order to cart boy #2 off to work today. ; )
ADMIRATION, n. The expected and customary attitude towards monarchs of the sea. The expectation has been broadened to include landlubbers; it has, thereby, been generalized.
When I admire someone, I have no intention of copying his/her behavior. I'm just lookin'. Not gonna get off my butt and do the admirable stuff. Might get seasick.
Puppy, you put more trust in her admiration than may be healthy.
Mutha, I thought I saw Elvis there.
Minka, jealousy with a bow? I like it.
Mule, and which of us hasn't?
Joel, pretty much always, right?
G, blogger knew you'd come up with something good.
That, refraction and reversal, Al.
Puppybrose, there are many reasons to admire Actonbell, including but hardly limited to her astuteness in sharing David Foster Wallace's phrase. I think that's who she attributed it to.
Nice pun, Amoeba. You're pretty quick for a man with painted toenails.
Quilly, sounds like you vote with Minka. A wise choice of idols.
Like me, Poobah. What about my admirability? Anyone? Hello?
I'm with you 100% TLP. That's OK. I can admire your fortitude from this here couch.
hah! Doug, never let it be said you don't deserve sh*tloads of admiration for your ability to set the suck record straight and/or pull the sucky rug out from under sweet Actonbell. ("sucky": not sure David Foster Wallace used that variation of the word, but my sister and i sure did, back in our youths...)
Neva, I think the first time I saw Actonbell use the "this is suck" line was on Central Snark and she started with "As David Foster Wallace writes" or some such. I don't mean to pull any rugs, but if I know her she wouldn't want his credit. She can tell me if I'm being a heel.
Mutha, what's for bemused interest?
And you're the cat's pajamas, Poobah.
Jamie Dawn, that's sooo wonderful but not as wonderful as little old you. Have I mentioned you seem to be getting younger?
golly Doug, my admiration for your honesty and/or need to set sucky records straight continues to grow and grow! now bask in the glow of your goodness then move on to something else. trust me, you're no heel. an admirable cad, perhaps, but certainly not a heel. ; )

Admiration: an intellectual crush -- and there ain't no Elvis in that pelvis.

admiration: a captian who has stayed too long at sea.
admiration - Often the benefit of a distant view.

Admiration: One of the things that happens to light when it passes through the lens of the human mind.

baeslkk: don't look at me in that tone of voice.
admiration a quality of envy which stops just short of "sour grapes" but usually encompasses, "I wish that were me."
admiration - An emotion too often lavished upon oneself instead of those who truly deserve it.

No -- no Elvis until you get to sin. It would have to be "desire" rather than "admiration."
Doug,
I always admire you. You're, um, the bee's knees.
Admiration: Butt kissing.

This is so true it's painful.
I could be first, if you'd get yourself outta bed!
This is suck.
Puppy, all I ever aspired to be is a well-heeled cad.
Alice, don't be pained. We'd all like to resemble you or know someone who does.
Sorry, blogmama. Slow morning.
Doug: It's a pretty personal choice -- but I would say Johnny Depp for bemused interest.
