Bassinet
BASSINET, n. A shrine in which is worshiped [SIC] "the image of it's pa." The word is from the French berceaunette, but the "image" is derived LORD knows whence.
2008 Update: A cradle in which a new mother and father may rest their resentment.
BASSINET: Sounds like the BASSI network on the Internet. See below if you like, but it's Geek to me.
"[PDF] Microsoft PowerPoint - 2007 architetture a strati.pptFile Format: PDF/Adobe Acrobat - View as HTML Strati bassi, network-oriented. Strati alti, application- o user-oriented ..... Bassinet: Awwwww. Anything baby-related gets that response from me. I am baby deprived! I haven't held a newborn in ages, and I need to. The great thing is that one of Courtney's college friends gave birth to a baby boy just four days ago. Woo Hoo!! She will be bringing the little fella for a visit soon, and I shall have my baby fix.
and PS: last week you're defining DOWRYS, this week Bassinets?? oy. if i didn't know better, i'd think someone's Biological Clock had just been rummaged outta the bottom of the junk drawer, in order to be cleaned and wound...
Ariel, that's hilarious. I might have considered kids if the were easier to mail.
God bless the child who can't yet talk, Mutha.
Mule, I've got no retort. That's funny.
Bassi brava, Jim?
So, a bassinet is like a truffle wrapper, JD?
Puppy, someone did have to say it and also this: A girl who is bespectacled May not get her nectacled But safety pins and bassinets Await the girl who fassinets-Ogden Nash in response to Dorothy Parker's "Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses." This is the only usage of the word bassinets I knew before this morning.
And, by the way, the choice of words is increasingly being driven by the fact that I've been pulling words from the same book for almost three years. It's not the ticking of my biological clock, but the riffling of pages.
Brian, that's funny. Regards to Diane and Rose.
G, I thought that's what they're for.
Oh, that's good, Actonbell. A voice box unconnected to vocabulary.
Nessa, I thought yours was funny too. It's been a good day here.
TLP, is that a flute with droopy ears?
Better than me, Poobah. I didn't know that was a word when I was a kid. Us kids slept in frying pans and cookie sheets.
BASSINET two of the definitions came close, but take it from someone who fishes, that BASSINET is really a slurred three word phrase of pure joy from someone fishing among thick lily pads: "BASS IN NET!" The cry is either followed by an equally loud string of cuss words or the joyful cry of, "BASS IN BOAT!" Only then can Terry's definition come into play.

Bassinet is for babies, as they don't go into an envelope.
Bassinet: That step between living inside Momma and the crib. In our family's case, it was the step between Momma and the bed between Momma and Poppa.
Anyway, a place to set the baby down and admire your work, cry, giggle in disbelief, wonder at the existance of God.
bassinet: a holding company for future deductions.
BASSINET: I sure hope the resentment stays away!

The Bassinets reached a new high in attendance last week. A team spokesman thanked all the loyal fans.
"We couldn't have reproduced our success without you."
bassinet: when there's an older sibling around, they often treat it like a martini - shaken, not stirred.
Bassinet: The shopping cart of parents future hopes and dreams.
Very funny definitions (before mine, that is.)

And as a side note, I really did believe this definition when I was a kid.

Can't remember. The kids are old now.
