Redefining misanthropy for a fresh generation. Standard posts begin with a definition from Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary followed by a modern adjustment. Miscellany on Wednesday and storytelling on Saturday.
I have those issues from time to time. Good luck.
when i saw this note, i wondered if your lumbago was acting up again.heck, it takes me a while to get out of bed, never mind get over here. take yer time, we'll be ready when you are! ; )
I can think of several things I'd like to say. But I won't. You owe me.
I'm thinking my mind went with TLP's, and I, too, had the common sense to disable its connectivity to my keyboard -- for now.
Good luck on your neura-tronic issues. Have you tried rebooting?
Sorry about the connectivity issues. On my way home I was thinking about what lets us all be connected depsite of our worlds are far apart, and how easy it is to lose this connection overnight. Also, is there anyone faster than Bruce Lee?
We'll be here.
We'll be here since you didn't invite us there, whatever/whoever it is detaining you...
good luck getting connected Doug :-)
dude, neural failure is my life.
BTW - per this connectivity discussion...I don't want you folks forgetting the Chicago escapade.
You do know that old people go to bed early, right?
you mean there are actually peoplewho are older than Doug?
"So, with Leili drowsing and the men carousing, Bossy wandered off browsing." Great line! And I love this bit too: "You know,” Leili told the cow’s tail...." and here I thought I was the only person who talked to cow's tails. The plot thickens. Good stuff. But you know I have to subtract points for lateness. So what would have been an A+ is just an A. Your parents will still be proud of your report card. But parents expect a lot from a genius. Genius and Djinni -- both are a blessing and a burden.BTW, the audio didn't work for me. I'll have to listen to that tomorrow.
Ooops! Now it works! Niks and I are listening now.
G, glad I'm not alone.Neva, I think it was my rutabaga.TLP, I'll pay you back next time I'm in town.Quilly, I'm kind of glad I don't get it.Morgan, the button's stuck.Ariel, are you this funny in Hungarian?Minka, it's funny you say that. The router I replaced this afternoon looks like a D-cup.Thanks, Sis.Jim, come on by. My father, dogs, and the sales guy at Fry's are who I've been tarrying with. Thanks, Kyah. Some days the dendrites don't reach.Nope, Mule. Good call. I checked with a buddy who lives in Chicago and works in the loop for good meeting places for Friday night and Saturday noon and the sonofagun sent me link to a website listing eateries. You and me gonna work this out?TLP, you should have raised me better.Haha, JJ. They're scarce and looking to be scarcer.TLP, here is something I learned today: The word Genie does not come from the Arabic Djinni but from a French word meaning spirit. I did not know that.
Wonderful. ...with Leili drowsing and the men carousing, Bossy wandered off browsing. and then look what happened: I dream of djinni. xoxo
Oh my, this has a magical promise to it. Doug, your prose was well worth waiting for!
LOL @Javajazz! If there was a list, those words should be in the top ten.
Mireille, I never count out a cow. Thanks, Quilly. Coming from you that says a lot.Right Ariel, along with "You mean this isn't what it looks like even though it looks like that."Actonbell, when the rats were talking about being kept apart and whether to assimilate it felt allegorical. You're right to be awed. The iPhone is an amazing toy. Sadly, though, I was so filled with wonder I upgraded to the newest Mac OS on my laptop as soon as it came out which is why there are gaps in my reading.
You keep outdoing yourself, bro!
Bossy has all the luck.Whatever will happen next??!!I'm eager to find out!
Where will all this carousing and browsing...and Hebrew lead to?! Stay tuned. Such a cliffhanger!
"The great road was a long and divided path of wide silences perforated occasionally by the clamor of bustling caravans kicking up dust in pursuit of commerce and the soft footfalls of lurking thieves in pursuit of caravans."I find that beautifully oriental, sunny, warm with a bit of dust and buzzling with activity. One of my favorite sentences ever, I think. Well, probabbly until the next episode.A Djinni...not only is the gras more greener on the other side, it holds lamps to be rubbed as well. And even if there is no djinni inside, it's always useful for a lovely pot of tea around the campfire.
Thanks, AP3, but no goofy humor I'll ever write will be as funny and odd as Eli Manning disappearing in a cloud of smoke from six Patriots and completing a pass to his teammate's helmet. I was tempted to walk away from satire.Me too, JD.G, I have no idea.Thank you, Minka!
