Jeremiad

I lament the machines aren't rising
And mourn that the skies don't fall
And tear my sack cloth analyzing
The magnification of the small.
For, though the streets don't run with blood,
And our capitol doesn't burn
And our people don't perish (mostly) in flood
Nor linger in Babylon awaiting return;
When one city pastor can sway ev'ry tree
With a gale of warm testimony
Then the land where we dwell, our gossipocracy,
Is in thrall to the small and the phony.

TRIVIAL, adj.  Newsworthy.

Gossipocracy - this word is unnervingly accurate.

Trivia - minutia of which every life is made.

Thanks, TLP. I just had a chinatown moment.

Ariel, I fear the same could be said of me.

Terry, the whole is less than the sum of its parts.

Brer Bear, exactly right.

Gossipocracy: a word often used and never defined. Look it up.
You won't find it, not in Merriam-Webster or even in the Urban Dictionary!

Oh well, I guess that is a trivial matter, at least in some circles.

GOSSIPOCRACY, n. A mass monarchy governed by suggestion rather than fiat.

Feel better?

Oh.
..
I named one of my blogs after Willie Nelson but it is inactive until I gain some momentum (not a trivial matter).
..
And Walela is named after Wayland Jennings?

Rev. Wright had his fifteen.

Ha, Jim. You can't tell from the sepia tone photo, but Willie has a reddish-brown beagle head on a black and white blue heeler body. He was a stray at the Georgia Children's Home and when animal control came for him, I adopted him preemptively. Who else would you name a red-headed stranger after?

Walela's name is another story but I'm a lifelong fan of Hoss', too.

Trivia = Trumpery

Jeremiah of the Old Testament seemed to always be depressed. He'd probably be depressed with the goings on of this presidential election.
Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Chicago and Senator Obama seem to have thrown each other to the lions.
Jeremiah would have much to lament over.

Good poem, Douglas.

Icy, I've had fifteen minute dental appointments shorter than that.

JD, was it Meschach, Shadrach and Obamego?

TLP: "Blogson" that is great I now have to find someone young enough to be mine.

gossipocracy - brilliant , and a non trivial truth.

One day we'll hear something which matters.

I wonder what the word will be that day?

Doug The Una said...

Cooper, it will probably be "celebrity."
