Jurisprudence

Jurisprudence, n. The kind of prudence that keeps one inside the law.

2006 Update: The system through which wrongdoers become convicts or judges.

Two Announcements: Indeterminacy has contributed a very good story to Doug Drones On.

The Editorial Board of Waking Ambrose has voted 2-1 to endorse Pia from Courting Destiny for the Koufax Award for best writing in a lefty blog. The dissenting voter thought our endorsement should be reserved to a writer who has contributed significantly to the literature of bones.
Thanks to Miz Bohemia for the head's up.

I second the nomination. Do we vote?

Sorry but I can't define today's word. I'm not even sure what it really means.

Juris-what-ence? You can't expect me to actually think on "Presents Day"! ;)

I'll be sure check out Indie's audio post and our Pia's got a nod from my site too.

Jurisprudence is a great name for a punk rock band.

Jurisprudence~ aaah, the study of the law, of course there are the formalists and the realists, the positivists and the naturalists, so it can get a bit confusing, but overall, a great way to kill a couple hours.
Or just forget it, and just watch Judging Amy.

jurisprudence - "Juris" from the study of law, "Prudence" from the root "being careful or deliberate".

See oxymoron.

I don't know...I had to go back three times to see how to spell it. Big words confuse me. Sigh. Too much thinking on a Monday.

Indie, the site says we vote but not yet. As soon as I learn that voting is happening I'll post instructions. And thanks for a great contribution to Doug Drones On.

Fortunately, Karma, that's not prosecutable.

Sar, I'm glad you're on the bandwagon. Pia's on an impressive slate of candidates and deservedly so.

Phoenix, name me one word that wouldn't be. OK, besides "Felicity."

Logo, thanks for a chuckle.

Poobah, don't underestimate the craftiness of Molluscum Esquireus.

Jenna, I accept Nolo Contenderepleas on Mondays.

Study of fundamental elements of a particular legal system; study of legal systems in general; judicial precedents considered collectively; system, body or division of law; caselaw. Jurisprudence can be analytical, comparative, equity, ethical, expository, feminist, general, historical, conceptions, particular, positivist, sociological. Interesting, huh!? xoxo

Aaaah, our resident experts weighs in, I knew I had to get my fluff answer done before the real legal mind arrived.
Well done, M. I guess tht about sums it up!

logo, I lifted it right out of Black's Law Dictionary ... it's not soaked into my brain, yet. And your answer was right! Isn't it cool that Doug gives us a learning environment??!! *mwah* xoxo

Yeah! Go Pia.

Oh...right..go Doug, too.

Doug: Thank YOU for thinking it worthwhile to post the story. I thought it would go well because it's non-fiction, and at my blog I'm only posting fiction.

Go, Courtney, go!

I got nothin' on jurisprudence. It's given me another Beatles earworm, this time "Dear Prudence."

Doug The Una said...

Well, that was comprehensive, Mireille. I'll make a note. xoxo

Right on, Iggy!

Well, by golly, Indie, leave the modesty there then.

Nah, Ddd, I could have got 40 pieces of silver at least.

TLM, it's a fair question. Check the rules. I think if you ever took a day off for Yom Kippur you're good to go.

Jamie Dawn, one with MS?

Wow, Actonbell! Suddenly I see the benefit of having a scrabble player around like never before.

Aral, I had the same affliction this morning.

Be honest you made that word up! Never seen it before. It is almost like an oxymoron though. Justice and Prudence goes together like fish and bycicle!

Jurisprudence: Eh?

Doug The Una said...

Ah, Minka! Seems like only yesterday that I gave you your name and here you are 28 and asking questions. Where does the time go?

Marwa, you're an English teacher for Pete's sake! I did not make this up, although I have to admit I don't use the word often.

Jurisprudence~ the kind of prudence bohemians must have as they sneak late into parties...

I am afraid things have gotten too complex for this frazzled bohemian!

Ooooh! We got a mention!

*blushing bashful bohemian* Good Golly Gosh!

Doug The Una said...

Good girl, Icy! Of course, I'm no judge.
