Year

Year, n, A period of three hundred and sixty-five disappointments.

2006 Update: A standard for the measurement of time often used for planning and composed of 365 days, which unit is most commonly the material for alibis and itself composed of 24 hours the unit lavishly granted for quitting one's nation of origin.

Announcing a new way to "enjoy" Waking Ambrose: At the long-ago suggestion of Liz Strauss, and to celebrate one year of this site, the original content from this site is now available at:
prattle_100a

As of now, Prattle includes a wordbook of the definitions and podcasts of the stories from this site as well as a brief biography of Ambrose Bierce.

I'll let all of you know if I decide to do anything more with that site which would be an indication that my warmth and charisma produce consistent results over time.

Good morning! I like those definitions.
This year is still young, and so is the day.
Year-another 1,960 hours spent wishing life away.

Am I correct in wishing you a happy blogiversary, Doug?
If so, happy blogiversary, and many happy returns!
I bet Miz Bohemia will want to party.

Happy Blogiversary, Doug!

Thanks for sharing Prattle with us. It's impressive and must have taken forever to prepare - good thing you had a whole year to do it. :)

I haven't been here since the birth of WA, but thanks to you engaging curmudgeon hospitality, it sure feels like it. Here's to another year at my intellectual playground.

Nice Doug.

If it is your blogiversary well then...happy blogiversary. Now I have to go shooping for something fitting.

Year...........whatever it is everyone hopes the next one will be better.

year to me is a wonder. it seems to be going to last forever at the beginning, then seems it has lasted for just a couple minutes at the end.

Year: the time we waste away with the belief that next time we'll actually keep all of those New Year's Vows, diets , and other promises.

Happy blogversity doug!

Year, n. A unit of time, unusable by the hard sciences because of its tendency to continually grow shorter.

Happy Blogiversary, Doug.

Looking through Feb & March, 2005 right now -- "0 friends and editors"???? -- you'll have to give us latecomers to the party another crack at those sometime.

Year, n., A division of time. In one's youth one barely notices the year passing.

The young see things the way they are this year and wish things will be the way they ought to be next year.

Older people look at the way things are this year and wish that things could be more as they were in past years.

Time, oh time, where did you go? Time, oh good, good time, where did you go?

Actonbell, that's a fantastic rhyme. I'm not sure the math's so good, but great rhyme!

Weirsdo, only you know your heart, but you're correct that this site is having it's first birthday.

Thanks, Sar, you definitely belong to the foundation rather than the belfry.

Thanks, Alice. I'm sure you'll find something fitting.

Est-ce que c'est la vrai Emillie Lucie? Tres belle! Around here it's a dog a day.

Very true, Ariel. The world is spinning rack of ribs.

Thanks, Solace. I think you're thinking of "January"

a4g, good suggestion. Maybe if I take a vacation.

Well written, TLP. In the middle we just look and wonder what that was all about.

It's been a year. Seems much longer;-) Congrats

About the warmth and charisma....

In one calender year Doug, the dawg duke has brought many many people together, and has made new friends; which helps us all. So yes, your warmth and charisma has been very helpful

year-time span with amazing properties of change. when little a year lasts forever, when older it compresses and goes by quickly.
Happy anniversary. Give yourself a proper celebration.

Did you say year or beer? I'll have one of the latter if you're serving.

Happy Blogiversary, Doug! It sure does seem like longer than a year!

I'm really impressed with your new Prattle.

Year: measuring the passage of time by the sale of Christmas stockings, Easter Baskets, personalized beach towels and Halloween totes.

Aw, thanks, Pia

Thanks, Masil. I was thinking of a fiber party.

Poobah, forget what I said. What'll ya have?

Thanks, Mireille. Xoxoxo

Phew, Miz B, let the party begin. And coy thanks.

Thanks, Dddragon. Is there a go-anywhere chair season?

Wow, Duxfine. Well done! Wish I'd wrote that.

One year! Way to go Doug. Here's to many more.

A year to me is a measurement of 365 days of sheer survival. As long as I'm here putting Xs on my calander - it means I am still alive.

No, Doug, those things Go All Year!

Hmmm, a warm & charismatic curmedgeon. That's a new one.

Happy One Year of Blogging!! That makes me wonder when I started blogging. I will have to check & see.

Year: It used to seem like forever, and now it seems to go by much too quickly.

actonbell said...

Oops, I forgot to say Happy Blogging Anniversary:) How rude!

a4g said...

Oh, and let me take this opportunity to bow to your always trenchant (re)definitions. We-who-soak-up your daily compliments too infrequently mention that mixed feeling of admiration, envy and resentment that accompanies the double barreled morning onslaught of wit from Bierce + Pascover.

There. That will have to last you a year. It's all the mushy praise my black heart can muster.

i celebrate you, Doug

Doug said...

Moniks, thanks for visiting. I like to think of ignorance as a lifelong process.

Thanks, Phoenix and great point. An X on the calendar replacing one in each eye. Then again, aren't you supposed to rise again?

That's because they're awesome, Dddragon.

Thank you, thank you, Blogmama.

Thanks, Logo.

Is that a Shayna original? You're a champ.

It certainly would be a new one, Jamie Dawn. And the answer to your question is not long enough by half.

Refined, Indeed, Actonbell! S'alright. Thanks.

a4g, that's more than hold me. I understand. Thanks.

I celebrate you, Karma. In the breach when I fail in the practice.

ariel said...

Karma indeed need to be celebrated at the anniversary of this blog because it wouldn't have come into existence without her, read the very first post, "Plagiarize" from last February! (great definition anyway.)

for some reason it amazes me that someone starts doing something on the LAST day of a month. but I sure miss the speech. :-P

SquareGirl said...

Ah shucks, I'm late to the blogiversary celebration. Thanks Doug for building this community park...there can never be too many community parks, especially ones without profanity... or syringes and empty beer bottles. It's the perfect park...except it has no Bongo players on weekends. Griffith Park, which I frequent, has bongo players on weekends and despite the groviness, even this square can't stay away from Bongo players. Needless to say, yours is still a lovely park, a wonderful place to visit and play! Happy oneyearversary!

Doug said...

Thanks, Ariel. A toast to Karma and Ariel.

Gee, Squaregirl, and you had a year to get ready.
