I love your definition.
Truth is good as long as nobody gets hurt by it!
I suggest, in times of trouble: Imaginative colourful alternatives

Truthful is as Truthful does.

And no, I don't leave chocolate evidence anywhere. That would be wasteful!

Mirrors are truthful... one's eyes are the two that can be dishonest. :)

Someone once told me we can be honest ... truthful ... or we can be kind. Which would you rather? xoxo

Doug The Una said...

wMonika, that explains rainbows I guess.

Dddragon, that's a special kind of honesty.

Hey, Shayna, well done. A prize for good use of numbers.

Well, Mireille, I suppose I'd opt for honesty but without much enthusiasm.

Truthful, adj. The tendency to derive pleasure from being humiliated or mistreated.
The quality of subjecting oneself to unpleasant or trying experiences. Syn: masochistic.

being truthful: the last resort when lies fail.

Aw, Doug, excellent update.
Lots of good stuff today, here is my meager addition to today.

“Many people would be more truthful were it not for their uncontrollable desire to talk”
Edgar W. Howe

Truthful: A recent study out stated that single wojmen over the age of 35 are more ikely to be shot by the vice president than find a husband. WA women take heed. It may be better to get a pellet near the heart than the alternative.

the little lumpful in your throatful that you gag on while telling lies

Sar, that's a good Twain quote.

Geez, AP3. I hope when you turn cynical that I don't get blamed.'

Come on, Asiansmiles! There has to be a third option.

That's not meager, Logo, I love that. May have it inscribed on my tombstone.

Don't worry, Mama, I'm not taking any chances.

Perfect, Karma.

Hi Doug-to be truthful, don't change my link yet! :-)
I'm not sure I'm sticking with WordPress. *rolls eyes* ( I know, women are fickle )

Truthful: Able to lie with a straight face.

Your mom's comment is hilarious!

I like your update...so true.

Leave it up to Einstein to cover today’s and yesterdays word...plus a signature while he's at it…a real help when you’re not in the mood to do much thinking.

"Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods."

Albert Einstein

I think I'm always truthful.

jthird option? ... play dead?

Your mom's comment totally bummed me out. So I have, what, less than two years? It takes me 2 weeks to decide on jeans. Good grief. That was too much truthfulness for me.

I need some chocolate now. Sigh.

Truthful, adj. Expressing or given to expressing that which is none of your damn business.

Doug The Una said...

OK, Kyah. Let me know.

Thanks, Pia and on mom's behalf as well.

Jamie Dawn, that's a good definition. Yes, Mama's a riot.

That's an awesome example, anonymous. Here and I thought the theory of relativity was pithy.

Nice hedge, Phoenix.

Haha, Asiansmiles. I was thinking more of eating the interrogator but that's good too.

In chocolate veritas, Jenna. In Mama, not so much.

Ain't that the truth, TLM. To paraphrase Augustine of Hippo, those I'd have lie tell the truth and those I'd have be honest lie. OK, emphasis on the para.

Truthful, adj. An abstract and humanly imprecise state, best left in cold storage, to be dusted off in the doubtful event of the return of an age of moral absolutes.

Duxfine! Where'd you come from? A root cellar, for example?

Anonymous said...

Sadly Doug, carbon dating has definitively established my origins well within root cellar frame of reference. Back when the earth was still cooling, ours once flooded when the cistern walls were breached. Have read with delight all of the bright people orbiting this erudite blog, and could no longer resist the temptation to offer a tenative, long in the tooth perspective. It is never too late to reinforce a misanthropic world view.

Doug The Una said...

Duxfine, I prefer goofy to erudite but no matter, I'm delighted you aren't holding back on us any longer. Please join the fun and meet my friends if you don't know them yet.

By the way, rereading my previous comment to you, I'm both amused and horrified. My question about the root cellar referred to your comment, not your origin. For extra bonus mirth, look at Bierce's definition of Birth.

Truthful bloggers.

I'm just contemplating that.
I wonder...

Minka said...

Bugger, 7 years. SEVEN years...!!!Sometimes truth is more than one can handle. And I mean that in all truthfulness.

Doug The Una said...

Icy, I have no idea what you're talking about, but I doubt it, girl. I doubt it.

Good question, Jamie Dawn.

I hear the truth Monika. Truthfully, I think you'll make the Earth shiver in the next seven.

Okay, I know the word is "truthful", not "truth", but I prefer to bend things a little to suit suit my own needs and here are a few favorites...

"Say not, 'I have found the truth,' but rather, 'I have found a truth'"
Kahlil Gibran

"We have art in order not to die of the truth"
Nietzche

"Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd."
Voltaire

and last, but not least:

"Never tell the truth to people who are not worthy of it."
Mark Twain

Oh but of course, In vino, veritas, so perhaps I should have had a glass of wine before I commented on truthful.

I have little except to quote Margaret Meade.
What people say, what people do, and what they say they do are entirely different things.

Truth therefore is whatever we want it to be ... she should of known as she was suspect of having made quite a lot of truth up in some of her early work, and being married three times she was obviously searching for it.

Truthful... has done me no good! NO GOOD! Although do not be too sure that all bohemian declarations are truthful... nope... you never know with them bohemians!

Rio said...

truthfully while waiting for your site to load i thought " oh its sunday there wont be a word" um so thats how long my weekend was it started wednesday and didnt end until today........ which would be tuesday not sunday i guess that doesnt really make it a weekend more like a week

Doug The Una said...

Very truthful, Actonbell.

Square Girl, thank you for demonstrating that truth can take many forms. Like the Devil.

Alice, it'd funny how when we have to face truthfulness we all start quoting other people. Good quote in any case.

Weirsdo, is that in the kids' lesson plan?

Miz B, I trust everything I hear from a Bohemian. What is a Bohemian but a Saint pursuing an alternative lifestyle?

Truthfully, Rio, I hope it didn't take that long to load. How's school going?
