DESERTION, n. An aversion to fighting, as exhibited by abandoning an army or a wife.

2010 Update: The sacrifice of freedom for liberty.
It's desertion when you leave your post
Of honor with your nation's host,
And desertion when you leave your spouse
Alone within your furnished house.
But there's no noisy tsking frission,
When an inmate flees the prison-
For in escape we find no vice
While desertion demands sacrifice.

Well done today Doug.

The urge to leave it
All behind
In hope of better
Life to find

With nary a thought
Of blame or fame
Instead the restlessness
To tame

Tis some visitor, I muttered,
tapping at my chamber door -
Only this,
and nothing more.

There's lots of wiggle room in that definite, Doug. Well done.

Desertion is something we ought not do with our responsibilities but which feels... well. Feels right at the right moment no matter the consequence.

You know, sometimes desertion is a kindness. The nicest thing my first boyfriend ever did for me was fail to show up at the church on our wedding day. I wish my (now ex-)husband had been that considerate.

desertion: one "s" away from sweetness.

Skipping the entrée so that you have plenty of room for dessert.

Desertion, the cowardly way out.
Don't let the door hit you in the A.

Really, there's everything in your update and poem, Doug, I can add nothing. Although as a fox, I see escape in running away from war. :-P

I wouldn't call you a deserter, Mo'a.

Ha. Well done, Terry.

Stay, Icy, stay.

Thom, sadly you can't desert if you never go.

Ah, distinctly I remember, Karen.

Lebensraum, Nessa.

Sauerkraut, desertion is not the same as eating a whole pie.

Mostly its a kindness, I think, Quilly. I never meant to imply otherwise.

Dddragon, that was an elegant pun.

TLP, I think you and I could share meals very well. I skip desert to save room for another animal.

Not much point in a courageous way out, is there, Jim?

Ariel, I think that's why the foxes usually take over after the war's been fought.
