Experience

EXPERIENCE, n. The wisdom that enables us to recognize as an undesirable old acquaintance the folly that we have already embraced.
To one who, journeying through night and fog,
Is mired neck-deep in an unwholesome bog,
Experience, like the rising of the dawn,
Reveals the path that he should not have gone.

"What is the price of experience? Do men buy it for a song or wisdom for a dance in the street? No! But a pamphlet can be had for mutterings or a slow limp!"

Experience is with which we can tell why we do the bad when we know the good.

Very Happy Birthday, Eamon! I can hardly wait to see the photos. ;)

Happy Birthday, Eamon!

From my experience, I have found replacing sugar with salt and vice versa to be an excellent prank. Sure to garner you lots of attention.

I have other suggestions for when you get a bit older or for when you visit Uncle Doug.

Happy Birthday Eamon!

Experience: From experience don't expect to be able to answer all the comments you'll have when you come back from a short holiday if you keep updating while away.

My price? For sure not a pamphlet so I'll take the dance. Did I ever tell you the time I danced with ... ?

Hau`oli La Hanau to Eamon.

To experience this cold weather here in Nevada leaves a lot to be desired :)

Happy Birthday Eamon. Experience has taught me that Doug loves birthdays not in July!

Happy Birthday to Eamon! And many more.

Some people learn from other's mistakes. I've always gone ahead and experienced mistakes for myself.

EXPERIENCE, n. A checked box in one's lifelist of misadventures. Proof that the bird in hand is safer than one overhead.

Birthday greetings to Eamon - November is a month we are all proud to be born in.

My own Grandson and I have Experience in this matter, as we share a common birthday this month - together. You understand this too, Mr. November Doug :)

Ariel, you're channeling Augustine again. That which I would, I do not. That which I would not, I do. That which I regret I have learned to predict.

Good start, Nessa. It's the wonder of the blogosphere that Eamon will have a head start on bad advice.

Mrrf.

No, Jim. Tell us a story, well-traveled gent.

Thom, you've named one of the things I miss from Northern Nevada. What are you doing there?

Pia, some of my favorite birthdays are in July. That which I would remember, I forget and that which I would forget, I remember.

TLP, we graduated the same university. Following in my blogmama's footsteps, without looking up at where the trail turns.

I can't decide if I agree, Amoeba. The one in the hand shares my fate.

And TLP, too, Terry. I hope the cake factory has its fires stoked.

Quilly, I rarely see another kind.

Actonbell, his Uncle Doug sang him "Happy Birthday" on the phone and he sang it back. Turns out the lyrics are "Happy Birthday wee wee wee!"

JD, the little guy lives in Oregon, safe from my spoiling as well as my advice.

Thanks, Coop.

Not here, JJ. Sun is shining, birds are singing the sun is in his cottage. All's well here, hope all's well with you.

Doug -- look away from the mirror more often. ;)

Today I explained to Amoeba that two of my friends, having just met, were quibbling because they each had the need to be "most wonderful". I said, I got along with both of them without such issues because I already am "most wonderful" and see no need to wrangle over it. Check my shiny halo.

And I'm modest, too.

Quilly, we don't all have such portable virtues.

;) You would have liked the look on Amoeba's face after I finished my little speech. He never knows when I am kidding and when I am serious. I like it that way.
