Funeral

FUNERAL, n. A pageant whereby we attest our respect for the dead by enriching the undertaker, and strengthen our grief by an expenditure that deepens our groans and doubles our tears.
The savage dies — they sacrifice a horse
To bear to happy hunting-grounds the corse.
Our friends expire — we make the money fly
In hope their souls will chase it to the sky.

Funeral: Fun fer all.

It is funny how everyone who dies seems to have been admired at their funeral.

verifier: donate (I guess this applies to your organs since the subject is your funeral.)

Funny, but Mrs. Jim and I were talking this morning about Mema (her deceased mom) having a birthday tomorrow.
And that my mom died on her birthday.
Then we mentioned (again) that my mom's funeral was February 23rd which is Mrs. Jim's and my wedding anniversary.

Sorry I doubted your spelling:
"corse (kôrs)
n. Archaic
A corpse."

You were right.

Fun fer all is the wake, isn't it, blogmama?

Jim, that was Bierce's spelling. I double-checked too.

Thank you, Karen, for yesterday's
Remorse: (A Fragment) by Robert Burns.

That will be my excuse to open my Robert Burns book (complete works, we bought at his birthplace) again.
..
Doug, is Mother Goose and Grimm in newspaper's your comics? If so, check yesterday's (or the link below).

I was going to say, TLP, that there is usually not much fun in this word.

Jim, You're quite welcome. I'm happy you found a reason to open the complete works of Robert Burns book which you and Mrs. Jim bought at his birthplace.

T&I, "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it."

Fun-er-al. Just talkin' about the spelling. I think funerals and viewings are no fun at all. In fact I think they're slightly gross. We do memorial services without the body present.

FUNERAL, n.
ceremony for the living designed to put the dead in his (her) place -- out of mind. And it seems to work remarkably well for anyone who wasn't close to the deceased.

Funeral, a way to make the living feel less gulitly for not being dead.

Jim, it isn't and the link didn't work. I have fond memories of that strip in the Akron Beacon-Journal when I used to visit my grandparents.

Amen, Thom.

Weirsdo, there's a good time for all the deceased's debtors, I imagine.

Brilliant, Tom.

Karen, is that a quote from Twain?

Ariel, you just gave me a Nick Cave earworm. I should be more thankful, I guess.

TLP, I do graduations without the student present.

Quilly, you're kind of serious today.

Sauerkraut, I'm just waiting for the guests to arrive.

Cooper, that's interesting. May be true, too.

Amen again, Nessa.

That is ok. Nick Cave can have a strange effect on someone. :)
