Life

LIFE, n. A spiritual pickle preserving the body from decay. We live in daily apprehension of its loss; yet when lost it is not missed. The question, "Is life worth living?" has been much discussed; particularly by those who think it is not, many of whom have written at great length in support of their view and by careful observance of the laws of health enjoyed for long terms of years the honors of successful controversy.
"Life's not worth living, and that's the truth,"
Carelessly caroled the golden youth.
In manhood still he maintained that view
And held it more strongly the older he grew.
When kicked by a jackass at eighty-three,
"Go fetch me a surgeon at once!" cried he.

2010 (a.m.) Update: Grateful that it's no longer the fourth plague of Passover, whereby dog-flies bite the Egyptians and attach themselves to their eyelids.

Life: It used to be a great photojournalism magazine now it's
"the most amazing collection of professional photography on the Web".

Being it's so close to Easter I would ask "how would Jesus define it", but that's just me.

Doug, your update is wonderful but it ate up too many precious hours of my life trying to read it into sense. Double negatives again! And, yes, this too is elegant.

Life's too short to be this long.

Nice update, BTW.

Elbot, there is life in every cog that spins and every switch that flips.

Karen, they come back.

Not just you, Cooper, but I don't think Jesus blogs which should tell us all something.

Thom, I'm too busy.

Sauerkraut, I like my Life plain- what's good enough for Mikey is good enough for me.

Nessa, double-negative is my favorite flavor, except triple.

TLP, up against the wall, redneck mother.

Poobah, that might be the best description yet.

Ariel, laughing out loud is a good enough definition.

I left a comment here about Life not just being for breakfast. I guess Blogger took it seriously and ate it.

Everytime I start to trust it and quit double-checking ....
