Brahma

Brahma, n. He who created the Hindoos, who are preserved by Vishnu and destroyed by Siva -- a rather neater division of labor than is found among the deities of some other nations. The Abracadabranese, for example, are created by Sin, maintained by Theft and destroyed by Folly. The priests of Brahma, like those of Abracadabranese, are holy and learned men who are never naughty.

2005 Update: A creative deity remembered in India, a nation of a billion souls adhering to countless religions in dozens of languages who have nonetheless become one people through a shared history of colonization. Esp. of Canada, the Caribbean and British Isles and the Internet.

Happy Birthday, Sonia!
(And apologies, somehow Bierce left out Guru Nanak Dev Ji)

Pansi's Audiobiography is now on Doug Drones On. Due to technical issues, the Saturday Storytelling may miss this week.

Brahma: Not to be confused with Brahmin, which is a characteristic necessary for participation in this post!

Sounds like bull to me, woof!

Aral, they're not blue Gods, too? Someone should explain that to them.

This is a hard one, Pia and Semisweet, but I'm pretty sure David Ricardo or Adam Smith is the Patron Saint of outsourcing. N. Gregory Mankiw?

Sar, you made me check my other dictionary! Thanks for the compliment, I trust.

Good dog, Icy! I wondered if anyone would go the cattle route.

The confusion between Brahma and Brahmin is quite understandable, as Brahma is traditionally depicted with four faces, and if I recall correctly, the most recent Boston Brahmin to make national news had a similiar physiognomy.

Tan Lucy, great extension of your post yesterday. People who enjoy wordplay should try this.

a4g, I only counted two big ones.

Nice, Weirsdo. I'm working on that other thing.

Tracking News Consumption in Real-Time
Akamai has unveiled a nifty new site that allows you to watch how online news is being consumed around the world - all in real-time. Unfortunately it doesn't include blogs at all.
Hey, you have a great blog here! I'm definitely going to bookmark you!

I have a algaecides site/blog. It pretty much covers
algaecides related stuff.

Come and check it out if you get time :-)

Doug - it's a good thing you didn't mislabel your return comments between Tan Lucy & a4g. Just sayin'.

Doug said...

Hahahaha!, Sar, too much. How do you know I didn't?

Brahma, n. Four faced creator of the universe, giver of the four Vedas. The Vedas have been enthusiastically received by modern Americans, especially the Ele Veda, the Darth Veda, and the Eddie Veda.

(Sorry, it's Friday. Ambrose, why have you forsaken me?)

Brahma - I thought it was Brahman but whatever.
brahma: noun of course and what the matriarch of any fine Brahmin wears due to the fact that what it holds is often thought of as coming from the highest caste.

I'm nothing less than totally confused.

I'll just chew on that awhile...and be careful with the quotes, lol.

The Hindu Trinity:

Brahma, the Creator
Vishnu, the Preserver
Mahesh, the Destroyer

Vishnu is supposed to have 8 incarnations (Krishna is one of them). They have all appeared on earth except for the last, Kalki. he is awaited

Mahesh is known by 10,008 names. One of them is Shiva.

Brahma has been cursed by Shiva and is therefore not worshipped. there is only 1 temple in the whole world (in Rajasthan, India)dedicated to Brahma.

i will post this cursed story and dedicate it to you :))

Brahma sounds like another New Age blasphemy to me! Praise be to Jesus!

Tan Lucy Pez said...

Okay, so is there a comic book version of Brahma for Dummies?

Doug said...

Hey, Rio, what can ya do? Have some lemongrass.

I wasn't confused until just now, Alice.

Haha, Actonbell, yes maybe you and I should just contemplate the abracadabranese for a spell.

Karma, I've been waiting for you all day. Thank you, as always for teaching. I have edited my post accordingly.

Soapy, old age blasphemy.

Tan Lucy, I heard of a children's Mabharatha (SIC?) Maybe we could read it eating broken cookies over the sink.

Not in my book, Monika. Not that my opinion is relevant. Just thought you should know.

Brahma : A mutated, three headed somebody who was automatically promoted to being the creator on account of 2 extra heads.

Hey, squared, did you drift over from Manjusha's site. You and a4g need to square your headcount.
