Brahma

Brahma, n. He who created the Hindoos, who are preserved by Vishnu and destroyed by Siva -- a rather neater division of labor than is found among the deities of some other nations. The Abracadabranese, for example, are created by Sin, maintained by Theft and destroyed by Folly. The priests of Brahma, like those of Abracadabranese, are holy and learned men who are never naughty.

2005 Update: A creative deity remembered in India, a nation of a billion souls adhering to countless religions in dozens of languages who have nonetheless become one people through a shared history of colonization. Esp. of Canada, the Caribbean and British Isles and the Internet.

Happy Birthday, Sonia!
(And apologies, somehow Bierce left out Guru Nanak Dev Ji)

Pansi's Audiobiography is now on Doug Drones On. Due to technical issues, the Saturday Storytelling may miss this week.

Aral, they're not blue Gods, too? Someone should explain that to them.

This is a hard one, Pia and Semisweet, but I'm pretty sure David Ricardo or Adam Smith is the Patron Saint of outsourcing. N. Gregory Mankiw?

Sar, you made me check my other dictionary! Thanks for the compliment, I trust.

Good dog, Icy! I wondered if anyone would go the cattle route.

one third of the Hindu holy trinity, creator, grew from fellow trinity friend vishnu's navel, sets the sun (so to speak), half man half women, and it just keeps getting better from there...

Brahma - I thought it was Brahman but whatever.
brahma: noun of course and what the matriarch of any fine Brahmin wears due to the fact that what it holds is often thought of as coming from the highest caste.

I'm nothing less than totally confused.

The Hindu Trinity:

Brahma, the Creator
Vishnu, the Preserver
Mahesh, the Destroyer

Vishnu is supposed to have 8 incarnations (Krishna is one of them). They have all appeared on earth except for the last, Kalki. he is awaited

Mahesh is known by 10,008 names. One of them is Shiva.

Brahma has been cursed by Shiva and is therefore not worshipped. there is only 1 temple in the whole world (in Rajasthan, India)dedicated to Brahma.

i will post this cursed story and dedicate it to you :))

Okay, so is there a comic book version of Brahma for Dummies?

Doug The Una said...

Hey, Rio, what can ya do? Have some lemongrass.

I wasn't confused until just now, Alice.

Haha, Actonbell, yes maybe you and I should just contemplate the abracadabranese for a spell.

Karma, I've been waiting for you all day. Thank you, as always for teaching. I have edited my post accordingly.

Soapy, old age blasphemy.

Tan Lucy, I heard of a children's Mabharatha (SIC?) Maybe we could read it eating broken cookies over the sink.

Tarun, and a whole lot of California. I had to stop somewhere so I drew the line where there's still no cricket,

Not in my book, Monika. Not that my opinion is relevant. Just thought you should know.

Brahma : A mutated, three headed somebody who was automatically promoted to being the creator on account of 2 extra heads.

Doug The Una said...

Hey, squared, did you drift over from Manjusha's site. You and a4g need to square your headcount.
