Mace

MACE, n. A staff of office signifying authority. Its form, that of a heavy club, indicates its original purpose and use in dissuading from dissent.

2010 Update: A handheld disincentive for loutishness, available to the upstanding as a spray or a stick.

You see here we differ :) I remember it as a tool for loutish policemen who used it against good people who just happening to be protesting a war we had no place being in

Joggers carry the spray form.
Cooks substitute this spice for nutmeg.
I have both kinds.

My son, Mike, is a drummer (amateur group of four including a female singer). He has the stick kind. He also runs and jumps rope but no mace for those.

Holy cow, have you all lost your minds? What has happened to everyone's cooking skills? Mace is a great cooking spice... oh so much more pleasant than the weapon or the irritant used in fighting other human beings... PEACE xoxoxo caw caw

Pia, a decade makes a difference, doesn't it?

Jenn, that's not how dirty books are written. Drywall Hung, by Jenn Howard, would be at least as groundbreaking as your Werewolf porn.

Thom, it's the first part that's the best and most needed advice.

Wind or ricochet, TLP, take your pick.

Tilden, I wondered what they put in that stuff.

Actonbell, it sounds like you're describing my head.

Cooper, that's why I like a gal with pepper spray. Definitely the milder power.

Jim, is your son a boxer?

Caw, caw, Terry! At least half of the comments above mention the spice.
