Piano

PIANO, n. A parlor utensil for subduing the impenitent visitor. It is operated by depressing the keys of the machine and the spirits of the audience.

2010 Update: A musical instrument named pianoforte (softloud), because it produces sounds of various volumes and attracts instrumentalists of varying strength.

"Well, dude, you know what OC always says."

"What's that, dude?"

"It's hard to play piano."

"How would he know, dude?"

"He plays trumpet, dude. Not piano."

"Precisely."

"Take your fingers out of your ears and listen, dude."

"I can't!"

Mrs. Jim plays her piano gets played about once every two weeks. She plays a bit on the honky tonk side and can play every song in the Baptist hymnal.

I am proud of her. She also plays her viola and owns a violin that she doesn't play. Her only problem is that she won't play fiddle style to me. Our granddaughter, BP, can play fiddle.

Piano: if Niks' memory were still good, this would be a sore subject.

Long ago true story: I don't like "stuff" where it doesn't belong. Niks was always putting papers, books, stuff, etc., on top of our upright piano. I warned him.

I really did warn him. No change in behavior.

He took a business trip to D.C. I put an ad in the paper. Sold that piano CHEAP to the first caller. The phone rang so much after the first call that the kids and I had to leave the house to get peace.

Niks didn't say a word when he got home.

Piano: to some just another flat surface.

"Piano, piano. Langsam, langsam. Slowly, slowly."

My father's only claim to multilingualism.
