BRAIN, n. An apparatus with which we think what we think. That which distinguishes the man who is content to be something from the man who wishes to do something. A man of great wealth, or one who has been pitchforked into high station, has commonly such a headful of brain that his neighbors cannot keep their hats on. In our civilization, and under our republican form of government, brain is so highly honored that it is rewarded by exemption from the cares of office.

2009 Update: An organ ingeniously, though mindlessly, devised by nature to absorb the force of impact against the cranium from, for example, walls, trees or incited violence. Nature's styrofoam peanut.
Without a soft, spongy, compressible brain to fill the interior, injuries such as the one depicted (right) would pose a much greater threat to the integrity of the skull.
Happy birthday, to my brother, Andy. (Be assured, today's word selection is purely coincidental)

Happy birthday, also, to Nessa.

Happy Birthday to Andy...Wow!!! Another big brain in the family...I am sure as my little brain can be.

Ouch!!! Doug.

About 15 years ago I had an accident...I hit the back of my head...near the neck. I got a bruise on my brain and the nerve that leads from the neck to the forehead was pinched. The Dr. gave me medicine that made me sleep for long periods of time.
As I was recuperating I had the urge to make Origami boxes and cranes, hundreds of them. Dr.s told me that this was the brains way of healing.
This is a true story...that explains a lot...that is my excuse and I am sticking to it.

Sorry Doug...did not mean to write a whole blog post here...see the above for explanation :)

What's this? A do-over?

Happy birthday to Andy. What's it like living in an entire family of superior brains?

Happy Birthday Andy! Big birthday week in the Pascover family :)

Andy must be a great guy to have today as his birthday.

You are so lucky, Doug to have a sister and a brother who are both Libras. I'm sure their brains work in very unusual ways.

And thanks for the birthday wishes.

This is a coincidence. In my family, we have three birthdays in one week. My brother's is the 24th. My sister's is the 25th. Then, a few days later, it's my birthday. A week before my birthday is my parent's anniversary, which is the same day as President's Day.

The gift shops love it because we pass around birthday, anniversary and president's day cards with wild abandon for an entire month.

Happy birthday to all...

My word verification is...

I kid you not.

Happy Birthday, Andy!

Doug chose the word "brain" for both of his siblings' birthdays, and he has a scar on his head, too. Impressive!

So the Pascover family has a tradition of really celebrating Groundhog Day?

Quilly and I have water on the brain. Mainly 'cause we don't got water anyplace else in the house. (We also don't got much in the way of the Internet.)

HB to Andy and Nessa.

Makes you wonder which one of his siblings brained him, Ariel.

Happy birthday to everyone. Lots' of birthdays around here lately.

Brain, n. Seldom used for it's original intent — thinking. Favored for use in naming television game shows and hardcore punk bands, the brain is the favored delicacy of most American Zombies.

Happy Birthday, Andy.

Actonbell -- YOU apologize for the redundancy?

Doug -- I've never previously noticed you stutter. Nervous?

Hey, Pop! How'd you know it was Andy's birthday?

Anonymous, I've known a few southern belles. "Defiant" is redundant. At least when addressing me.

Wow, Mo'a. That sounds painless.

Thanks, K.

TLP, the Enlarged Devil's Dictionary has separate entries for the transitive verb and the noun.

Pia, you aren't kidding. Our step-father's will be Tuesday.

Hope it was a good one, Nessa.

So, February 28, Karen?

Jim, it never tries hard but is usually good for a first shot.

True, JD. Mine is particularly groovy. And thank you.

Jenn, I think a Genie is playing a trick.

Ariel, if they read this site, Andy would point that out. Good that he has you here as a proxy.

Thanks, Charley. Yeah, we have many traditions and among them is forgetting Andy's birthday. Our brains only get 48 hours to reload.

Jenn, whichever they had good cause.

Yeah, Cooper. I thought they were for eating, too.

Actonbell, Vonnegut might have felt differently at the beach party Thursday. Nothing to apologize. You drunkenly forgot to repeat yourself.

Quilly, (and by "Quilly" I mean "smart aleck") two entries, two meanings. Take it up with Ambrose.

Holy cow Doug - I hadn't seen this picture. Such a thoughtful eye - but the scar reminds me of Randle Patrick McMurphy in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest... you haven't had a lobotomy have you? Very creative :)
