Olympian

OLYMPIAN, adj. Relating to a mountain in Thessaly, once inhabited by gods, now a repository of yellowing newspapers, beer bottles and mutilated sardine cans, attesting the presence of the tourist and his appetite.
His name the smirking tourist scrawls
Upon Minerva's temple walls,
Where thundered once Olympian Zeus,
And marks his appetite's abuse.
—Averil Joop
2010 Update: Related to the lofty preserve where Greek deities were free to imitate men, unobserved. Private.
In thunder and lightning,
Or chariots fighting,
The Olympians watched and made ready.
The Grecian's divinity
(Powerful, isn't he?)
Englories the will to act petty.
-Aristotle

As a wanna be traveler, Joop's little ditty is one of my favorites.
Some of those olympians were of olympic proportions.
You did good, Doug. :)

Karen, yes, I watched Gunsmoke. We didn't have a TV until 1956.
I didn't ever, not once, watch the Hillbillies real time but I watch them now.
¡Gracias a Dios hoy es Viernes.

Here in the PNW we have our own Olympia Mountain. At one point there was a beer named after and a really bad joke to help promote it -- Drink enough Olympia Beer and you, too, can become an Olym-pee-un.

I am an Olympian when it comes to self-promotion. Your word today helped inspire a post over at my place in a sort of roundabout way. I think it's one you'll both enjoy and hate me for all at the same time. In other words, it is one of my better pieces. ;)

The level of Jimmah Cahtah's error when he unilaterally decided to boycott Moscow 1980.

I am doing a bit of an experiment on social networks... click my name and ask me a question. Clean, non-hostile and funny are most welcome.

The (Jacksonville) Suns are now a farm team of the Florida Marlins.
I can't stand the National League. It was much better when we were attached to the Detroit Tigers.
(and the TAMPA BAY RAYS) !!!
At least they're an AL team.
And I'm still annoyed with Damon for his treachery in leaving NYY.

Thanks, Jim. And it's good to have that cleared up about you and Gunsmoke.

Poobah, "It's the turnwater" is some slogan. Olympians and raindogs, huh?

More deeply flawed than the average human, Logo? That is olympian.

Go in peace, Nessa.

TLP, I know the type. Really well, in fact.

Quilly, you still have to spam your friend's blogs to reach the summit.

Sauerkraut, I'll give that a shot.

Karen, he who comes by treason, goes by treason.
