Aged a day

Story #9, in which Doug learns what the years can't take away.

To hear the story, click the image of Atlanta at dawn.

To read the story, click on downtown at dusk.

Today's story is cross-posted at Doug Drones On where maybe this week someone will send me a story of their own.

And Happy Birthday to one or more of Pansi and Weirsdo!

Time: the currency in which we deal, trade and give away. We are always trying to obtain more, but instead we are always running out.

Aww, poor Doug. I know how tasty those Phipps Plaza restaurants are.

doug,

good story, but excellent definition. That's an all-time aphorism.

is Doug trying in his cool Doug way to say that today is his birthday?

Doug The Una said...

Dddragon, so...time is money!

Weirsdo, that detail was included for you.

Of course it is, Karma. Hanging out in quiet deperation isn't my way.

S, I always wanted to write an all0time aphorism. Even back then. There were some good ones Carlito's Way.

Naw, Pia. It was the story that came to mind. Not that I'd turn down a cake.

Another great story, Doug. Liked it so much that I'll even forgive the omission of Willie & Walela this week. ;)

That is my favourite story so far.
Hilarious!

time, n. something which we neve live in. We either plan our future of we dwell on the past, but constantly ignoring the present moment.

IS IT YOUR BIRTHDAY? Fess up. Is it? Anyway. Happy 25th birthday way back then. I hope someone knew about it that day and said it to you then. Of course, your mom knew and called you.

And Happy Birthday again NOW. So this is 38? Ah, I remember it well.

I don't think anyone will improve on your definition today.

Time is a thief. And it isn't even real. Just an idea.

Doug The Una said...

Wow, Sar. If you're gonna write poetry and all, I'll try to make Willie do something funny by next week.

Thanks Monika. Seems to me, the present is gone in the blink of an eye while the past and future go on forever. Just better real estate.

It's not, TLP. I'll be 38 in November. I was shocked that Time wasn't in The Devil's Dictionary. But thanks for the birthday wishes for 1992. I think that makes it a whole birthday at last.

time, the real boss.

LOL about writing the papers. I can remember going to the college pub which closed at 11:00 pm. I'd then go back to the dorm and write a paper (before computers, mind you) from 11:30 pm to 4:00 am. Now, I'm asleep by 10:00 pm.

Great story.

I really lauged reading that story Doug :) But your birthday isn't nowadays, right?

Doug The Una said...

Sreekesh, true, but I'm a poor employee.

Thanks, Fred, you staying dry, buddy?

Marwa! I'm always so glad you leave a comment. Thanks. And no, not at all. Putting a birthday story up nowhere near my birthday is just a good example of all the wisdom the years haven't brought me.

You must have looked pretty dishoveled to be mistaken for a homeless fellow.
Time has a way of getting away from us. There are seasons that seem to fly by. I hear this gets worse the older you get.

Doug The Una said...

Icy, I have a hard time giving the stuff away. It's everywhere.

Jamie Dawn, I look that dishevelled on a good day.

LeMas. said...

Hahahhaa, that's pretty good stuff. So what's better? People thinking you're homeless or people thinking your a gigalo?

Fred said...

Dry as in rain, or dry as in the other stuff?

Doug The Una said...

Masil, do you even have to ask me that question? Actually, neither is so bad.

Fred, Florida looked stormy. No-one would hold drinking against a high-school teacher,

Unknown said...

haha Lisa, that is priceless! how did you even think of that!!! ... haha ;))

mkbahkh: monkey business ah, karma hears

Jamie Dawn said...

You say dishevelled; I say dishoveled.

Doug The Una said...

Hey, Karma, I like your new Kali Avatar. More you than your own hand. She hears but does she tell?

Jamie Dawn, just don't call me late for dinner.

Aw! Well, at least the last minutes of your birthday were enjoyable!

Time, n. Something made meaningless by the time machine created by the Ancients.

Doug The Una said...

Ha!, Goa'uld you're right, and it was better than '93 when I spent the whole day mining Naquada for the Emory Universoty Ori Fellowship and didn't even get a coffee break. If it weren't for Teal'c writing my term paper, I'd be there yet.

thanks. she kisses and tells ;-)

Time ,n. That which will drive fatalist to their death.

I swear it did this yesterday before I left for the day. Mybe I'm in a time warp.

Doug The Una said...

You did, Alice, on my other site. That's why I have it. To trick you into leaving a second comment.

hey, a really, really belated happy birthday. :}

Lila said...

Doug, are you a Scorpio?

Great story. Sounds like a hell of a birthday!

All of my birthdays away at college felt weird to me. They all felt lonely, even though I had friends. Actually, I think I feel a little lonely on every birthday since I grew up and left home. :-(

Doug The Una said...

Hey, thanks, Dead Guy. The statute of limitations is 14 years, so you're right in there.

I prefer to think of myself as a transpecied newt, Aral, but yes. I'm completely introverted on my birthday which might be another form of the same thing.

Lila said...

Cool. I'm a Scorpio too. But I'm the late-October kind.

Doug The Una said...

Cool, then I'm less than 365 days older than you are. I can't explain why that makes me feel better but it does.
