Wheat

WHEAT, n.  A cereal from which a tolerably good whiskey can with some difficulty be made, and which is used also for bread.  The French are said to eat more bread per capita of population than any other people, which is natural, for only they know how to make the stuff palatable.

2008 Update:  A grass which, unsuited to the estate lawn and non-narcotic when smoked by the butler, found favor as a substitute among the Earth's needy for gravel.

Well, what can we say about wheat?

The French make good bread, but to me, the sour dough bread from San Francisco is better.

I bet you've tried smoking wheat.

Wheat? Uhm...hm...the grains are good for torturing your little brother when you're on the farm because they can hide pretty good in his bed. Not that I've done this I'm just saying...

TLP is soooo right about sourdough bread. Yummy to the max when it comes to breads!!

I separate the WHEAT from the chaff when it comes to daily blog reading, which is why YOURS is the ONLY blog I visit daily. Your blog is an easy In N Out visit (I'm suddenly craving a burger) and I get to write down whatever drivel comes to mind about whatever word you happen to choose for the day.

Jamie Dawn bids you a day sans ado.
Ado would be a good word.

Oh, and eat your Wheaties!

So do people who imbibe wheat (wheat-eaters)also do lawn work? xoxo

Wheat as a substitute for the regular pipe filling? Gosh but there must be some really hardup people out there.

The amish make some really nice breads. I've noticed many fields around these parts and parts east where more of the amish live are planted with wheat. Given the hype for alternative fuels, I was thinking nearly all of the fields would be corn, but no. It's wheat. Hundreds upon hundreds of acres. Which means there will be lots of good bread this fall.

One interesting factoid about the amish: they grow and smoke tobacco. But I've never seen any of the wild ones smoking wheat.

What can one say about wheat? It's been vilified, dragonized, lionized, has me convinced it's the enemy if processed.

I love love love processed wheat, not so much in sour dough bread but in any form of pasta. Alas though I have spent two years convincing myself I'm allergic to it except on the most special of occasions. I guess the next allergy to convince myself of is all wheat or gluten but would life be worth living?

Some people would say that last statement alone is enough to say I'm allergic to it.

Wheat is a very controvesial subject Doug. More so than politics or religion I do believe

Some smoke wheat. They're the same people to smoke banana peels

wheat: The material from which one separates the chaff, but unfortunately, no one knows exactly what chaff is.

One of our amber waves of grain, but when the price went down in the late 1920s it contributed to the dust bowl.

I meant ingest. But this correction isn't as discreet as one might wish. xoxo

Wheat: Wheat may be at the top of the food chain soon. With the demise of bees, there will be no more fruits and not nearly so many vegatables.
None that require bee polinazation will be around, only self and wind polinated plants.
Bee keepers are reporting huge losses to their flocks, as much as 80% in places.

TLP, I prefer sourdough, too. Especially when I have the munchies.

Jenn, I bet you didn't read that in books.

JD, I'm glad you come daily to this field of chaff.

Indirectly, Mireille, I'd say so-ish.

Sauerkraut, you don't expect them to light up right in front of you, do you?

Funny, Pia. I think glutein-allergy is our newest and most widespread addiction.

Poetically put, brother Bear.

Quilly, I kind of assumed you were living on bread made from hibiscus flour these days.

Poobah, look around you. Chaff is the botanical word for "neighbor."

Actonbell, drink yours.

Weirsdo, for want of a subsidy a topsoil was lost?

Mireille, it would be nice if we could cultivate our comments.

True, Jim, but my artichoke plants and orange trees are covered in them. Too bad there's so

For amber waves of wheat,
For purple mountains' majesty

Wheat is beautiful when it blows in the wind under the wide open skies.
