Tenacity

TENACITY, n. A certain quality of the human hand in its relation to the coin of the realm. It attains its highest development in the hand of authority and is considered a serviceable equipment for a career in politics. The following illustrative lines were written of a Californian gentleman in high political preferment, who has passed to his accounting:

Of such tenacity his grip
That nothing from his hand can slip.
Well-buttered eels you may o'erwhelm
In tubs of liquid slippery-elm
In vain — from his detaining pinch
They cannot struggle half an inch!
'Tis lucky that he so is planned
That breath he draws not with his hand,
For if he did, so great his greed
He'd draw his last with eager speed.
Nay, that were well, you say. Not so
He'd draw but never let it go!

2007 Update: Quivering cowardice in the costume of a corsair, with a patch over one eye. The ardor with which the self-important pursue over-rated achievements among undervalued neighbors, except in the case of satirical lexicography which is a noble avocation even at three A.M.

She's baaaaaaaack! Old friend and favorite shoe, The Belle of The Brawl, is up and ornery, alleluiah! Her first topic back? Gays, gayness and Peter Pace.

Tenacity: To strut in heels or words.

Thanks for the awesome re-intro, my long-time friend, even though you had the tenacity to refer to me as an old friend, ya old fart! ;)

(Minka - hooray, see you there my dear friend!)

Tenacity: Doubtless.

TENACITY, n. The original subject of Dickens's tale, but even he found himself running out of words (or maybe his editors decreed that even his foreigners were to speak grammatically correct English), so he shortened it to two cities and declared victory.

Aloha, Sar!

Doug is not an old fart. I am an old fart, and each family is allowed just one old fart in charge.

[Sorry, but I have about 4 more hours in the Frankfurt airport, and needed something to do]

Minka, if you'd seen backflips you'd have seen an ambulance, too.

Mutha,, you're the first person ever to call me an insomniac today.

Sar, take you're bow. It's good to have you back.

Al, soitenly.

Amoeba, A tale of Tenacity would still have been required reading. Freaking teachers.

Poobah, I think it's that exactly.

Pops, if you haven't been through the second security line, you don't. And if the ziploc bag with your toothpaste isn't a one-liter, but, say, one-quart, anticipate an extra screening. Frankfurt Flughof is more German than Germany.

Douglas, bet my bottom dollar (yes, i have one of those stuck to my bottom) you yourself don't understand a word of you've written. On the upside, I must admire your tenacity for continuously striving to fool us, your faithful and unsuspecting readers

Tenacity? hmmm. the only thing that comes to mind is that stupid joke about the flea trying to have his "way" with an elephant (suffer, baby, suffer). heh. just because you can't do something doesn't mean you shouldn't try...

Karma, has it been there since the last dance? I always wondered when I'd be found out.

Puppybrose, that joke deserves more credit than it gets. Not unlike the mouse.

Quilly, I thought you might be familiar with today's word. I mean, it's on the test, right?

Mutha, you know that joke?

I hear you, Jenna. Feel better.

Good definition, Mule. I hope you feel better, too.

Boy, it is a pleasure at long last to meet a scholar who knows the correct spelling of rednek.

Kyah, that sounds kinda cold.

Isn't that a great word(s), JD?

Tenacity is what kept me away today...studio time...artists have to have tenacity.
And, Thenacity is why I am here, even though I knew the fun time is over. Now that is double Tenacity.

Welcome back Sar...how about changing you flight time, and come here instead :)

Doug The Una said...

Goldennib, that's just true.

Actonbell, Reverend Lynn and I are all about the good news.

G, there are worse fates, aren't there?

Mo'a, I never want to get between you and your art. I'll be grateful whenever you get here.

Not by half, Alice. Another definition might have been "The eternal devotion that distinguishes the young."
