I'm jealous of your definition, so I'll pass on defining. Anyhow, I posted a story today with some jealousy motifs. (#327)

Fear that the part of You that is missing, and resident in the Other, is being usurped by Another. xoxo

Doug The Una said...

Sar, is Shakespeare a character in one of Twain's short stories? I don't recognize the name.

Karma, the hussies! (Not Sar, the ones at the party)

Well I'll be right there when I get over the envy. I was proud of having 27 stories.

Well done, Mireille. *turns green*

jealousy,n.
a human condition deeply embedded in our most primitive psycholgy.

most commonly associated with a woman, screaming at the top of her voice in direction towards an Adam of this species:"Thou art a most notable coward, an infinite and endless liar, an hourly promise breaker, the owner of not one good quality." -All´s Well that Ends Well-
on which he will reply: "Such is the simplicity of man to harken after the flesh." -Love´s Labour´s Lost-

love Manchego quoting Erica Jong's definition.

Jealous that I didn't think of it

But really really love Doug's definition as it says it all

Tom, Icy and Curly, thank you for bringing slapstick. Got your nose!

Monika, thank you. Those are a couple of great quotes. The quote from All's Well that Ends Well is gorgeous. I love baseball fiction.

Me, too, Manchego.

Karma, thanks for bringing that up. A fervent MLK day to all of you.

Thanks, Pia.

jealousy - Fear of writing a check that your ego can't cash.

Love may be blind, but jealousy sees too much. Dunno who said it.

Jealousy, n.,
Just a lousy feeling that tells us that someone else probably has the same inappropriate thoughts that we have.

Jealousy: Looking at all those commenters up there, knowing each one is far wittier than I could ever be. *sigh*

"a green-eyed monster" (so says that Shakespeare guy)

Logophile said...

jealousy~ That which represents itself as a twin of love but is really a disguise for domination or proprietorship.
-----
You don't own me, don't try to change me in any way
You don't own me, don't tie me down 'cause I'd never stay

Oh, I don't tell you what to say
I don't tell you what to do
So just let me be myself
That's all I ask of you
------
And if he looks at her like that just one more time I am going to scratch his eyes out
:-P

Hm. I got nothin'. I have no jealousy. Not even of my friend who has three more friggin' contracts that me.

Nope. I feel no jealousy.

Since I don't feel the wrath of envy, I have decided not to define it. I'm totally okay with this. Totally.

I. Am. Hunky. Dory.

Admittedly Envious of your definition Doug. I am off to go whine, pout and devise a way to one-up you. Will be back when I am done giving you the silent treatment.

*bohemian flings arms up in despair as she arrives late to the party yet again*

So many great definitions! I am left speechless and therefore have nothing to say yet shall leave with the full force of the word festering inside of me! AH!

That which drives an otherwise normal person into an overwhelming insanity filled with contempt, hatred and false hope.

My love was red, and now it's blue.

Jealousy: I guess there must be some jealousy wherever there's love. However, too much jealousy can spoil it all as it may turn to possession.

Cooper said...

jealousy- a fancy name, with a little fuel behind it, for the insecurity that comes from doubting yourself.

Doug The Una said...

Poobah, that's a great definition. Got some self-esteem until Tuesday?

TLP, I actually do think jealousy is seeing our scurrilous natures in the people around us. Or is it just me?

Fred, I have the same problem and its supposed to be my site.

So, TLM, you must have read the same Mark Twain story as Sar. Freaking liberal elites.

*clap**clap*, Logophile.

All is well, Jenna. When you have the contracts I hope we're all as gracious.

Anonymous, I'll be here trying to think of clever A.E.s

Let it out, Miz B. Let it all go.

Anonymous II, and yet no meanness. Go figure.

Marwa, or obsession or dissention.

Amen, Alice. That explains why wisdom wears a bikini.

Seeing people on the news holding up their big lottery check. After jealousy comes fantasy, as I pretend that I won that money and think of all the marvelous ways to spend it.

*My brother drove down Interstate 5 from my folks house today. He called just as he was at Magic Mountain. I think that is near you. I told him I thought one of my blog friends lived there. He waved to you from the freeway.*

Rio said...

i met the other woman, the holly, it definately brought me back to those days of summer when jealousy was the only thing getting me out of bed in the evening. fyi: i'm totally better

Lila said...

I don't mind that this is your comment number 27 today and my post, which was up all weekend, has 14 comments. Nope. Whatever. It's not really about the number of comments.

Doug The Una said...

Jamie Dawn, I live just 10 miles from Magic Mountain. If I'd known, I'd have stayed home for your brother's wave.

Good to hear, Rio. I'm sure you're a much kinder, more gracious and more attractive other woman.

Aw, it's apples and oranges, Aral. I've just been blessed with really terrific and loyal readers like TLP and Manchego.

Lila said...

Oh, sure, Doug... rub it in, how you've stolen away my MOMMY and my BEST FRIEND!

mireille said...

I am jealous of alteregos wisely wearing bikinis. xoxo

Doug The Una said...

Not stolen, Aral. Lured is a whole different thing.

Nah, Mireille, you're the world's leading kisser and kissee.

Funny you mention that, a4g.

Jamie Dawn said...

I'm posting a link to your blog in my post tomorrow, Not that you need the comments or anything. I just want to do my part to make Aral even more jealous of you.

Jealousy is seen in the eyes of my husband after I have been to a Tim McGraw concert salivating over Tim and his cowboy hat. ;) Jealousy!

Ariel the Thief said...

jealousy is the habit of the imperfect mass, they look around and see the world is full of prettier and smarter people, and indeed it is. me, I am perfect.

LeMas. said...

I'm pretty useless definition wise until about Wednesday. But I just wanted to say hello and point out that I'm not at all jealous that there are so many witty, clever people that can produce on a Monday on this site.
However, I will point out that my word verification word is myctum, which I think has something to do with my cranial bowel obstruction.

Indeterminacy said...

Doug: my faovrite stories were the first 30 or so. All the others are superfluous.

Doug The Una said...

Thanks, Jamie Dawn. OH, FACE!

Sure, Shayna or in the eyes of Faith Hill for the same reason.

Ariel, I thought you looked familiar.

Hahaha, Masil. I get those all the time.

Come on, Indie, you were doing great into the 40s.

Keep telling yourself that, Actonbell. You were gonna quote W. Somerset Maugham and you know it.
