The Moment We've All Been Waiting For

This week's guest is Tan Lucy Pez (TLP) so if you hear of me getting flattened by a bus, that's just karma trying to restore some balance.

TLP defined the word Harpy.

Harpy, n. 1. (Modern) A female whom you happen not to like. A fierce woman who holds different opinions from you.
2. (postmodern) A woman who never learned that you can't change a man - unless he's in diapers. A woman who is learning the hard way that, sadly, all men are created equal.
3. A man, woman, adult child, or dog, who whines, wheedles, whimpers, or harps in order to achieve their own desired result.

About Tan Lucy Pez: Oh, where to start. TLP is the mother and chief sarcast of the first family of the blogosphere, the Pezes (of the Pennsylvania-Massachusetts Pezes.) Her posts blend equal parts apology for the dullness of her writing and laugh lines. No one in the blogosphere does blue humor as ladylike and elegant as she. That TLP! To know her is to adore her and that's why I've taken my place in the line of blogbabies waiting to be born a Pez. Plus, I bet she's funny when she's offline. Just sayin'

About the Pezes (Vol. IV): The brilliance, creativity, cleverness and refinement of Actonbell, Aral Peppermint Patty Pez, Bookworm, Dddragon and Goa'uld can all be traced to TLP and from there back to chimps. There's something more than touching about the way they're all so different from one another and yet honor each other in public in writing. TLP's late son, Nivek Army Ranger Pez is also honored beautifully by the adult Pezes, exemplifying in their memories both the strength and the wackiness that we've come to expect in this family.

Special thanks to Dddragon for six months of intensive lobbying and to Jamie Dawn for sacrificing herself to make this happen.

How to be a future guest on this site: Just send an email to dpascover at mac dot com. On a future Wednesday, after posting that week's guest, I'll send you an email with a word to define. You'll be expected to return your definition along with a graphic representing either your definition or yourself by the following Saturday. The only rules are no profanity and no novels, please. And whatever I make up at the last minute.

The harpy's are playing as the heavens open and the angels sing...TLP is the Special Wednesday Guest!

Very nice, TLP. So when can we expect the flying pigs?

Sar said...

Lordamercy, I'm first on TLP day? *faints*

Minka said...

"Hark now here, the Pezes sing, a post was born today...and bloggers´ll laugh forevermore, because of Wednesday!"

Minka said...

Harpy=Monika
because of how TLP defined it and also: my two kids turned out to be birds :)

Lila said...

Yay! TLP is the guest! It's about time. Just sayin'

Harpy, n. Hillary Clinton, if you're a Republican; Nancy Reagan if you're a Democrat.

Doug The Una said...

Sar, my wings won't beat any faster! Doing my best, though.

Thanks, Linus. Actually, I've wanted to ask about Derrick und Harry Klein but I was afraid their father had them.

Aral, Nancy Reagan??? I'm scandalized. Maybe you should look closer to home.

Ariel the Thief said...

you know the Derrick series in the USA? wow! how does it taste there? (Stephan Derrick and Harry Klein, though.)

mireille said...

Wow. Never thought I'd see it happen. I can die now. TLP, it's an honor to honor you ... and Doug, good job on capturing essence of Pez. ♥ xoxo

Minka said...

Doug, Their father? Nope...we have come to an agreement that the father gets visitation rights and food purchasing rights, but that the two birdies are gonna stay with their mommy. I am very fierce when it comes to my birdies!
Ariel, Derrick is a German production. I am German-living in Iceland, speaking English put aside- and hence my birds got those two lovely names :)

Minka said...

Ariel, you were talking to Doug!? Forget my explanation :)

Anonymous said...

All hail the TLP!!

Ariel the Thief said...

but thank you for the explanation, Monika, Derrick used to be one of my fave series when I was a child, but I didn't know about the birdies. of course they have to stay with their mom.

I had to struggle to come up with a definition of harpy. I'm so not harpy-like.

Thanks to all who drop in today. (If you said somethin' nice about me. Otherwise, to heck with you.)

I thought the dog would put out refreshments, but I don't see any. Maybe dddragon was supposed to bring them. Jeez! *grumble*

Doug The Una said...

Ariel, I see you and Monika worked it out. I only know Derrick and Harry from the naming ceremony for the birds.

Mireille, it's gravy time. I may take tomorrow off.

Monika, glad you worked it out with Derrick and Harry's father and Ariel.

Ave!, Ariella! Ave TLP!

Sorry, TLP. Dddragon said you were on a diet and caffeine makes you nervous. I have Sanka, though.

mireille said...

Or Scotch. TLP likes scotch. xoxo

TLP said...

Ah, scotch. I'm okay with that. Iced tea is fine. Long Island Iced Tea is better even.

Caffeine does not make me nervous. I'm naturally nervous. You got a problem with that? Huh? Tryin' to pick a fight or sumthin'?

Jamie Dawn said...

I agree with Aral on both counts. I'm a Republican and have no qualms about Nancy being called a harpy. I think that little lady not only had a bark but a bite to go with it. As for Hillary, super bitch to be sure.

Hooray for TLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope she didn't take offense at being given the word "harpy." She may have thought you were in some way thinking she had first-hand knowlege on the subject.

I'm finding out that in my life, I've needed some harpish tendencies. I've been much too nice all my life and have gotten a bit run over and over. A more "harpy" Jamie Dawn gets results. I like the nice Jamie Dawn better though, but she has to take a back seat now and then for the greater good.

dddragon said...

FINALLY!!

Doug The Una said...

Mireille and TLP, Irish Sanka coming right up!

Jamie Dawn, I never meant to imply that TLP is a harpy. Any implication to that effect is coincidental.

Yes, Dddragon. High Five. And she did great, didn't she?

We love TLP!!!

Hi TLP! Great job!

Harpy~ Do the Lova women fit the bill? 'Nough Said!

Doug, you are fantabulous as always! Bohemians bow before you!

Omnipotent Poobah said...

Harpoon - Lampooning said harpies.

TLP, if you're ever in the San Francisco area, we have our very own Pez Museum. They'd probably really like to meet you.

Doug The Una said...

Good girl, Icy! Everyone loves TLP.

MizB, I think LoveMama's picture is probably next to the word in the dictionary. Curmudgeon's don't handle being bowed to that well. Howdy is perfect.

Is that right, Poobah? I'll have to look for that next time I'm near the bay.

Hey TLP and Doug, this is really confusing! Doug sends to TLP and TLP sends me back here...I've been just going back and forth between here and there all day!
I like this guest Doug, especially since she has the nerve to call you on your work ethic...I mean seriously, how much of YOUR blog is actually even written by you? I'd bet it's only really like 10% And you really should have provided some refreshments for your friend TLP...

i may very well be a harpy, in the very best sense of the word of course. i often refer to myself as princess in my head and i also found myslef whining this morning to the stranger next to me about how awfully hot his bed was, just kidding...or am i?

Harpy

I have potential.

The tlp seems like a lovely creature......not a harpy.

Ariel the Thief said...

anonymous - ROTFL!!!

Fred said...

Harpy = MIL. That's an easy one.

That TLP. I've been wanting to say that for a long time.

Doug The Una said...

Anonymous, I'm absolutely embarraassed. Irish sanka isn't good enough? 10% is all you want me writing.

Rio, you're no harpy. Feel free to choose another word, like ballerina.

Alice, you aren't really cut out for it, but with work...

Ariel, hi!

Fred, it feels good, doesn't it?

Mikki Marshall said...

Well I don't mean to HARP ON the subject, but even I am aware of the hemming and hawing that took place here!
And for what? You aced it!

TLP said...

*the queen harpy strolls in*

I've had a lovely day. I had to go out for refreshments since the dog and the daughter didn't provide anything worth my time. Those kids. Harping doesn't seem to count for much around here.

BTW, I left my own house unattended and you should see the mess! Chips, dip, beer bottles, ... See, I keep snacks around just in case someone breaks in.

Doug The Una said...

Still Life, of course she did. Heck, if I can do it.

Actonbell, I spot great guests all the time.

TLP, I had nothing to do with the mess. I rinsed my plate, recycled my cans and dusted under the TV. I saw Aral put a bag of cheetoes over her head.

Good job, TLP. I like your sense of history. My candidate for postmodern harpy: Dr. Minnie Strator. (Add ad to minnie strator to understand this without clicking the link.)

Peter said...

We were all so harpy to see you here TLP.

TLP said...

Jeez! With my fee being only 5 cents, and there being only 35 comments, I made only $1.75 today.

I shoulda left more comments myself. YOU have to pay for my comments. I'm your guest.

I don't want to harp on this point, but why isn't there a cent sign key on my keyboard? Boy, you just can't trust anyone these days.

I bet there was a cent key on my keyboard when I left my place and came over here...

Indeterminacy said...

I've always been bewildered that there were so many Pezes out there in the world. Now I know what it's all about!

So you're at $1.80 now.

I think you should jack up the price to 10 cents. YOu have a lot of mouths to feed.

Indeterminacy said...

P.S. Maybe people could use their Adsense pennies intto cover your fee...

Doug The Una said...

Weirsdo, I figured she'd be your first choice from you list.

Nyuk, nyuck, Peter and welcome.

TLP, you can almost by a Schwartz' marshmallow for that. Thanks again for doing this. You're the greatest.

Haha, Indie. And great suggestion. Mine are in the mail.

Saur♥Kraut said...

Everyone loves TLP, who is remarkably brilliant.

Bela said...

Very true, saurkraut, very true. :-)

Doug The Una said...

She certainly is, Saurkraut andyou're not bad yourself. Thanks for coming by.

You too, Bela.
