A particular type of disappointment. By the kind of intelligence that sees in an exception a proof of the rule the wisdom of an act is judged by the outcome, the result. This is immortal nonsense; the wisdom of an act is to be judged by the light that the doer had when he performed it.
2007 Update: Any occurrence that causes counting.
i know I'M tired, but i'll be damned if i know why. ; )
oh, and speaking of "counting"...
uh... i know i'm being annoying (what else is new?) but is "Outcome" an "overworked" word and/or vice versa?
just sayin'... great post, but thinking the outcome wasn't quite what ya had in mind! perhaps you've been too overworked of late to notice? ; )
Like Actonbell's definition.
The outcome of a presidential election isn't determined by the actual votes cast for a particular candidate
Yet we are supposed to teach kids that they are responsible for the outcome of their actions
OUTCOME, n. The visible product of effort. See ...
"No, dude! Don't go there! Amoebae are sexless, remember?"
"Yeah, dude. That stuff's Jenn's department. Or maybe Neva's."
"You didn't see her Christmas card yesterday, did you, dude?"
"See no evil, hear no evil ..."
"I'd even believe you, dude, if I hadn't seen your Firefox history. Time for us to get outa here. Coming, dude?"
"I oughta smack you one, dude."
cbnendo: and out the door, Groucho.
Outcome: Please come out to see the outcome.
Guess maybe we need a where and a what in the above for a better outcome.
Your response to my comment yesterday got me thinking...
I wish this OUTCOME in the New Year:
For those with bony bohunki to gain flab upon their nalgas and for those of us with more than ample bohunki to be able to feel the bones of our buttocks like in the days before one too many truffles caused an excess of padding.
To realize the outcome one has to realize the events led there first. Is that the rabbit? The audience? The illusionist? No. Good luck with your guessing!
OUTCOME n. result -- usually one considered inferior despite it being equal to the input.

outcome after income
My income seems to be smaller than my outcome.
outcome: the plague of statistics.
Outcome: The result of telling the world you are gay.
I must catch up.
My optimism is more like your optimism but even that is obsolete, the outcome appears dire.
Neva, I think "outcome" might be the overused word of the past five years as measured in pious proclamations and shrugs.
The President of The United States and the Executive Director of ¡Arriba!, inc. both, Actonbell.
Pia, I guess voting is an instinct. Can't be held responsible for our instincts, now, can we?
Amoeba, pornography is the primary outcome of censorship, I guess.
Jim, this way to the egress...
2008, JD, the year of the right-sized bohonki.
Ariel, the calendar?
Quilly, my outcome has a rosy tint, as well.
Terry, that's unusual in a crow.
Mule, plagues are the outcome of feral rats and cited stats.
OK, ok, TLP. I'm a homo. Happy?
Cooper, go into the foul dark laughing. So it is with me.
Hope you had a good Christmas, if that is something that cynics can have.
I would like to know more about outcomes - usually I go through life wondering what just happened.
Indie, it just takes one child to slip on some ice. Outcomes are whatever that was that just happened.
Nice reply to Indy!
OUTCOME, n. opposition to your expectations
Like ingo, Minka?
I was disappointed by the outcome of publishing my book. I expected to feel excited but actually went through quite a period of depression.
