Majesty

MAJESTY, n. The state and title of a king. Regarded with a just contempt by the Most Eminent Grand Masters, Grand Chancellors, Great Incohonees and Imperial Potentates of the ancient and honorable orders of republican America.

2007 Update: Personal fortune illuminated with collective envy.

Happy Martin Luther King Day. This being a day on, not a day off, your host has struck a mighty blow for the power of the people to overcome googlery some day. This site can now be accessed as bitterbierce.net. Updating links to one of these addresses will enable even the lowliest reader to follow, should this site move to another location. Merci beaucoups, Aleeece.

Majesty: and *I* thought it was a chain of movie theaters.

congrats on laying claim to your own majestic domain, Doug -- for some reason that sounds like a big deal...

Majesty: The living ruler's rarest pose; the dead one's eternal repose.

See, TLP, and I thought it was a smart-alecky woman of a certain age in Pennsylvania.

Puppybrose, it was simple enough that I'm faintly curious why I never thought of it.

Great definition, Al. Reminds me of Bierce's definition of Politician which included "As compared with the statesman, he suffers the disadvantage of being alive."

Yes?

We are not amused by this definition

There is only ONE Majesty here at WA, it's the Ice Queen! All hail!

Bow politely, now! :) D

Puppyrose thought of this simple yet elegant solution? Great
for you. It was so simple yet elegant it slipped through the cracks
of some of our minds

Everybody is a Majesty here in the world of Bitterbierce.net
Isn't Al on vacation?? I shall be on one tomorrow!!!!!!

Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
But she doesn't have a lot to say
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
But she changes from day to day
I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a bellyful of wine
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
Someday I'm going to make her mine, oh yeh,
someday I'm going to make her mine.

MAJESTY, n. When you're not quite sure which one's the royal and which one's the clown.

"Take the fool away."

"Do you not hear, fellows? Take away the lady."

bitterbierce.net, eh? You can't fool us, Your Majesty.

:)

Pia, my friend, you flatter me -- i wish i had been clever enough to offer such an elegantly simple solution for his Majesty, Doug, but i'm fairly certain the distinction belongs to Alice-in-Wonderland-or-Not-but-if-Not-then-Where Cooper! who, along with you, is as majestic and lovely a blogger as can be found in this here blogosphere. (hope you have a fantastic trip, by the way!)

majestic syn. volcanic

I was one of the first visitor's to Mt. St. Helen's after it was reopened to the public. I climbed to the top of a ridge. On my right was dense, old growth forest. On my left was barren land where charcoal tree bones thrust from devouring piles of ashes. That purple mountain truly was majestic in it's fury.

Minka, I'd have been disappointed with any other comment from you.

Karma, I'd have been disappointed with any other comment from you.
Perfect verifier, too. I see the royals are in sync.

Brian, that's tanning spray.

Diane, this is a place of many Queens and quite a few fools.

RIghteously said, Quilly. Reverence is evidence of prevalence.

Pia, it was the gift of your daughter by another mother.

Ariel, I think you've found a Beatles song I don't remember getting tired of. Well done!

O Ceallaigh has any bard written a finer character than a fool? Has any schoolteacher met one?

You are correct, Neva. It was she-who-shall-not-be-hyphenated.

Quill, that must have been stunning. There's a memory my sister and I enjoy repeating on her husband. When he was her boyfriend, the family met in Yosemite. Jenna, Jim and I went for a drive and Jim, looking out his window said "Man, erosion makes bitchin' s**t." The same can be said of volcanism.

I can't improve upon your 2007 update Doug. That's nigh on perfect!

I once took care of a little girl named Majesty. She lived in a chaotic household, her mother had nothing. It touched me very much that born into that context her mother had chosen that name.

Majesty: loftiness, pre-lop.

Doug The Una said...

G, you are so right, your highness.

That's right, Poobah. And the uppity of the rest of us, too.

Kyah, we are thankful for your appreciation.

Mutha, any chance of interviewing a childcare worker for your people in the neighborhood? That would be interesting.

Haha, Puppy. From the palace towers to the ramparts of the bridge.

That Daisy-doll who's visiting G looks sort of majestic, in her own way.

Great definitions. I have nothing majestic to say, except I hope everyone enjoyed the King's birthday. Even if you had to work, like me.

Doug: I'll take it under consideration...

Actonbell, there's majesty in simplicity. Thank God.

You know how I like that series, Mutha.

Square, Iesus Nazarenus Rex Judaeorum? Or did you mean The Prince of Monaco?

Majesty: What a majestic word!
Think purple.
I've no time to come up with anything more.
Sweet dreams!

Alana said...

well, actually, I meant Martin Luther King Jr., being that it's his day and all...

I'm with Tan Lucy Pez. I was going to say that Majesty was a purple mountain.

Doug The Una said...

Good morning, Jamie Dawn!

Squaregirl, who? How can you say he cared about widows? His wife was a widow and he flat abandoned her.

Mt. Majesty, Cheesie? Oh, beautiful.
