Manna

MANNA, n. A food miraculously given to the Israelites in the wilderness. When it was no longer supplied to them, they settled down and tilled the soil, fertilizing it, as a rule, with the bodies of the original occupants.

2007 Update: Food as it once fell freely from the skies before it was synthesized in beakers.

From the Supplementary Mischief and Ingratitude Department: Pia was a true friend during my vacation, objecting on my behalf to those scoundrels among you who felt the need to create a fictional vacation for me. No good deed should go unpunished. Click here to help see her thoughtfulness appropriately rewarded.

manna: icelandic for human!

see and you thought it would be difficult to learn this language :)

Morning everybody and look-see who is first *big grin*

Manna: From the ancient Greek phrase for "Hey! I didn't order this."

manna What is it? The eternal question still uttered by children at every meal that doesn't include pasta or spaghetti.

Al -- I didn't see you in this restaurant. Perhaps the waitress switched our plates?

'morning, Quilly. Let's see, hmmm, I got the fried liver with onions and Cool Whip. Must be yours...?

manna - A male banana.

That wasn't good, was it?

it's so wrong to share THIS VIDEO with regard to the word manna... and yet i just did. (sorry, it was the first thing that popped into my fragile little mind)

perhaps i can do better after i've had something to eat.

Oh, Puppy! LOL!! I remember that bit from the Muppets! Clasic! LMAO!! Just what I needed! Thank you! Oh, it's just too perfect! First prize! I've forgotten what it was I was gonna put down. :P Ah, well, must've been lame! Thanks for the snicker! D :)

The liver and onions are my manna. Give the cool whip to puppy. Nothing else could top that awesome video treat.

Grr....that puppy stole my mana mana

Manna: Doing what your mama gave ya'.

Manna: Half a banana. Also: A Greek letter that never caught on.

Everybody is way more witty then me today ... I may be a bit hung over from guesting yesterday.
Al and Quill -- you kill me.

Minka, I'm starting to think your adopted language comes from a cartoon. It's good to see you back in the right spot.

Al, and remember the portion control. One ephah per person, an ephah being the tenth part of an omer.

Quill, if God had dropped spaghetti and meatballs on the Israelites in the desert, the Bible would be a much funnier read.

Al, what do you suppose Quilly wanted the cool whip for?

I don't know, Poobah. Made me laugh. How that answers your question is still unresolved, though.

Puppybrose, I'm so happy to see that again. That earworm has lasted me a lifetime.

Isn't that good, D?

Quill, someone needs to come up with a cherry on top.

Ah, Jenna, we were just talking about you.

Brian, I hope that comment was made from a couch.

Ah, Herr Doktor! Guten Tag. Wie geht es seinen Freund, Indie?

Mutha, that'll do for today. Yesterday was grand.

When it rains, it rains
Manna from heaven.

Funny Julian just got a faraway look in his eyes the other evening and pronounced "Oh I just love ice cream". But I guess it wouldn't do to drop ice cream from heaven, after all - melting and all that.

Doug, before you know it, we'll be counting THE OMER again! My how time flies!

synthesized in beakers.

Sheesh, Doug. Bioreactors! What kind of fools do you take us scientists for, anyways? Weren't for us, we'd all be grubbing for lichens in the desert.

Liver and onions, Q? [takes notes] How 'bout liver and bacon?

Anonymous said...

OC -- many people consider Rumaki a form of manna. I happen to like liver in many guises, but I am picky about how it is cooked. What the heck is behind that link? The school filter will not let me open it!

Anonymous said...

Oh! Does this make me the cherry on top? Because I can be. Even though this is a "pg-13" blog (and I DO have my doubts about that...I really do.).

Manna, is as I'm discovering, Skinny Cow ice cream!!!

I loved puppybrose's video--I used to love that:)

Well, free blogs are like manna from heaven--all these wonderful people:) So are our families, and those music sites where you can listen to whole albums, and libraries, and really funny jokes, and motivation that pops up for no apparent reason. Oh, and sleep. Dreaming's free, too.

aw... the only thing bad about that video is that it reminds me of VI. i believe i first linked to it after a comment he made here... that, and he kicked my a** once in a caption contest with the clever line "Manna from Heaven". good times. (i miss that guy.)

in lieu of manna for my tummy, i shall go in search of some for my soul(ish), via Pia (ooh, lyrical)

G, when in Omer, do as the Omer does.

O Ceallaigh, now that's just plain romantic. Liver, onions, candles and soft trumpet music. Throw in a lecture on the paramoeboid metabolic response to earth metal suspensions and she'll be yours forever.

Quilly, I'm hesitant to ask, but what's a Rumaki?

Jenna, unless you change your first name, this is a G-rated site for you, Missy.

Actonbell, and beer seems to be worth its price, anyway.

Puppybrose, that's nostalgia for you. I wonder if everyone realizes what a softy you are.

Anonymous said...

I consider beer a rental, and yes, well worth it.

TLP said...

Manna live, you guys are full of it today. Very funny. Doug is droll as usual.

I thought that was great poobah. Acton, you crack me up with the "rental" comment. I don't rent my food and drink. It stays on my body forever.

TLP said...

Oh, Puppy! I just checked out the link. I had forgotten that bit. My kids did indeed love it. I don't even mind the ear worm. *sigh*

Anonymous said...

Doug -- your comment to OC has me laughing outloud. He is not your stereotypical scientist and he self-checks quite well, but on a couple of occasions ...

Rumaki

Puppy, now that's a great video. DoDooDooDo.

Tali's begging me to play it one more time - go to bed kid.

Doug The Una said...

Actonbell, so long as you return it in the condition you received, or buy the loss/damage waiver, I guess.

a4g, an ironclad citation, that one. Poor San Berdoo, though. If Hell's Agels appear in the bible, they got nothing.

TLP, I've been working on my droll role.

Quilly, you had me at bacon.

G, back when diinosaurs roamed the Earth and you had to watch it when it was on, remember that?

Manna: Probably not the stuff they sell in the vending machine at work. I think it's that stuff that's s'posed to be good for you. I'm trying to eat more of it and less of the stuff they sell in the vending machine.

The kindness from the hands of humans.

Manna: Italian/American expression, as in "Manna, youse guys are funny."

Cheesemeister, I think it's like falafel without olive oil.
