Aristocracy

ARISTOCRACY, n. Government by the best men. (In this sense the word is obsolete; so is that kind of government.) Fellows that wear downy hats and clean shirts — guilty of education and suspected of bank accounts.

2007 Update: Those whose vices are remembered by strangers, whose virtues are invented by lovers and whose triumphs are disapproved of by all. The recently deceased.

Second! I saw that movie, AP3, and you are so grounded! You aren't old enough to see that crap, and I do not recall giving you permission to see it.

(Forgive us for having a conversation here, Doug.)

TLP, I watched that movie WITH you! D'oh!

Oh. My. God. I do remember that now! LOL. If you can't laugh at yourself for being senile, what good are ya? I'm laughing. At ME. Well, okay, we didn't watch it all, did we? It was boring. And nasty.

Is this someone's blog here? Some aristocrat? He had it coming then.

On Aristocracy: Send your noble blood to market and see what it will buy.

Aristocracy: The especially entertaining human population from whom a reality TV producer can always reliably draw a particularly inept cast of screwy and weird characters.

And, "The Aristocrats!" *snap* Funny! Thanks for dispensing a laugh this morning, Pez Fam.

aristocracy those who claim power by virtue of stature and/or wealth, rather then by virtue of character.

good to see how this concept of aristocracy works in the House of Pez. (and that was one freaking funny film -- and reading your comments makes me realize more and more how much i wish i was a part of your family!)

great word, better definition, best of luck coping with any and all who will be vying for position as "top dog" around here, today.

Artistocracy: The ones who have no s*it on them (blame Monty Python for the profanity).

Are we talkin "Artistocats"? As in in Disney? As in in "Everybody wants to be a cat" ??

I haven't seen it, Aral but I know what you're talking about.

TLP, it was my fault. I forgot to put your ginko biloba pill out.

Pezes, nothing better than to be a chatroom from blogkin. Help yourselves.

Al, so the aristocracy is now a serfdom for the yeoman tv producer?

Quilly, by character you mean under 5'4"?

Give her my regards, Mule.

Minka, your grace. *curtsies*

Puppy, bow wow (dew claw raised)

Mutha, we weren't but we can.

ARISTOCRACY, n. A guild of proto-Darwinian population biologists, who observed the effects of artificial selection on cattle and dogs and attempted to replicate the experiment on themselves.

They thought they would be producing a population of "best men", but what they really got were ordinary, if well-dressed, people beset with inbreeding-borne conditions such as hemophilia, polydactyly, and hereditary insanity.

In an early attempt at damage control, the chastened experimenters hired a Sorbonne-educated dervish (the first "spin doctor"). Whose first act was to change the spelling of the name of their guild from the original ARISTOCRAZY.

Oooooooooh. NOT about cats. Got it.

Love that cat song though...

Mireille, education and noblesse oblige are rarehere. Lese-majeste, more common.

And yet, OC, they outlived courtiers 2:1. There's proof of health and reason for you.

Mo'a this is the right place, a little suburb of the Pezosphere.

Aral, I have to say it's a rare pleasure seeing you so much here. May you be as chatty in the days to come.

I wouldn't know, Icy. I drink my milk from the bottom.

Mutha, the line between crats and cats is far too thin to keep to one side of.

aristocracy played active part in making this amazing invention, guillotine, popular in France.

Oh right Ariel. It makes me think of an aristocratic bumper sticker: "Let the eat cake."

Mutha said...

sorry: "Let Them Eat Cake"

Since I have nothing to add to this subject, I'll let Samuel take the podium:

"We have to be despised by somebody whom we regard as above us or we are not happy; we have to have somebody to worship and envy or we cannot be content. In America we manifest this in all the ancient and customary ways. In public we scoff at titles and hereditary privilege but privately we hanker after them, and when we get a chance we buy them for cash and a daughter."
- Mark Twain in Eruption

G, so it's a little like if you'd named your son Christian.

Ariel, exactly. Just as mice invented the mousetrap and bees the bear.

Mutha, I'm fer it.

Terry, that's a lot to offer and a great quote. I've often wondered why people have daughters.
