A King Arises

Episode 5 of The Meditations of Diogenes The Cynic. Thanks to this week's reader.

To hear the story, come to Tyre.

This week, in The Prattler, "A Surge in Stupid."

To read the story, climb into the box. Would I mislead you?

The pictures weren't visible to me, but the story was audible and that's what matters.

Now then, a male voice - almost forgot about the menfolk who frequent WA! Sorry guys, not forgot forgot just forgot. What a wonderful reading! Another professional in the ranks. And a truly amusing story with my favorite line being the last.

I'd better not make this comment too long - rare is the time that I am first after all.

I'm going for another listen...

pics? What pics? [checks glasses] Nope. No pics. Dawg!

G said...

That was great, I really loveloveloved this reading. Really, I'm thinking audio book for this reader as well!

Nicely done.

Doug The Una said...

Thanks G and Quilly. When you say "no pics" do you mean you don't see the pictures that link to the sound and the story page?

G said...

Yes.

Anonymous said...

that's exactly what they mean.

still... GREAT story/reading *behind* the NOT pics. (seriously, that's a voice i could listen to all day long)

so...? what about the queen???

Doug The Una said...

Strange, I do see the pictures. How are you linking to the sound and the story?

Doug The Una said...

OK, how 'bout now? I may have learned something about New Blogger this morning.

Anonymous said...

you calling us liars? or are you just being cynical?

(i can now see one pic... and i just clicked where i figured the link would be, and voila! 'twas there! hiding, like that philosopher, in plain sight)

Doug The Una said...

Neither, the pictures showed up on my screen, but I figured out why. I'm glad 'twas there. I hope both pictures 'tare now. Not to fear, if the Queen is badly injured, fate will surely bring another.

I'm seeing all things whole - except for the potentially deliberate Freudian-slip-type spelling on the Prattler tease.

Definitely a New Yawk slant to this week's edition. But I'm thinking this week's reader is a puppy in the same kennel as last week's. Professional squared. Eh, G?

Doug The Una said...

Thanks, OC. Behold, it ain't my day. That would have been a clever intentional typo, had it been intentional.

Meet the New Blogger. Same as the Old Blogger ... ;)

Anonymous said...

Doug, to find the links sans pics I just moved my curser around until it gave me the "click here" finger (which is different from the one blogger was giving you).

Anonymous said...

not yerself cuz yer not at home, right? (or did i misunderstand a comment i read on someone's site the other day?)

now see, O'C? (O'C, can you see? oh see can you all see how my brain is/isn't working today?): i don't hear New Yawk in that voice at all! also, if the puppy is from the same kennel as *last* week's reader, would that mean it's Doug's brother?? cool.

Quilly: "the finger"? good one.

G said...

OC: I don't hear New Yawk, but that is a stroke of genius in your hint! I hadn't even considered Squaregirl for this reading!

Anonymous said...

OK, two weeks ago. Sheesh. It's Saturday. You want me awake, too? I'm supposed to be hauling plumbing, but we had an ice storm here last night, so everything's delayed. Me? I'm not delayed. Might have some bucks if I were, lawsuits notwithstanding. I'm just late.

Feeling a bit out of the loop...damn business trips and non-working internet connections in hotel rooms are putting a serious crimp in my ability to keep up with my favorite blogs. Anyway...

Great story Doug! I do hope the Queen will be okay. As for the voice...hmmmm...has anyone seen Al lately?

Kyahgirl said...

great story, great voice. I'm glad the boys are coming into their own.
That's gotta be Joel, right?

Sar said...

Have I told you lately how warped your sense of humor is Doug? I completely envisioned the slipping and falling and cracked up. I guess my appreciation of it makes me warped too.

Let's do the Doug warp again! (There you go, proof positive, I'm warped.)

And what a great story telling voice! Very calming, easy to listen to, entertaining. My first guess was OC except reading Snuppy's hint that she could "listen to it all day", makes me think it's Joel.

The question is, who sports the calming voice...an oceanic microbiologist or a corporate jet setter. Hmmmm. Now I'm thinking OC again. Well, either way, very nicely done!

I'm putting my bid in for Joel. Al it is not -- I've never spoken to Al, but I have a feeling we'll hear New Yawk in his voice loud and clear -- it sure rings in his writing.

~Mo'a~ said...

My wote is Joel also....no New Jersey in that voice. Although I did ditect designer jeans and boat shoes :) so it could be Joel....yes, then there is Diesel....I don't know....yes, Joel.

SeePearrl said...

cool one!

Anonymous said...

Diesel! Of course.

Alana said...

I'm going with Joel on this one. And I can see the pictures, or am I so late that you've already fixed them? Either that or it's my overactive imagination, believing that I "see" the pictures...

TLP said...

I guess Joel. Second guess might be SemiSweet, but he's not been 'round for a long, long time.

Good reading.

Anonymous said...

Upon second listen...the voice is a little nasal. Hmmm

Lila said...

Great story... I don't know who that is! Tell us, Doug!

Doug The Una said...

But now in technicolor, OC.

Right, Quilly. I knew that wasn't the index finger I was getting you smug little feather.

Puppy, that was your husband's site. I should introduce you. (I leave tomorrow, though.)

G, a true stroke of genius since it was two weeks ago not one. Geniuses tend to have problems with details like that.

Amoeba, see?

Joel, I have actually.

May be, Kyah. Whoever it is is a true pro.

Sar, excellent reasoning in that it's inconclusive.

Quilly, reasonable as always except when you're crowing about wordpress and your traffic.

You know, Mo'a, I got a real designer jeans and deck shoes feel too.

Thank you, White Forest and welcome.

Joel, Diesel has a beard. Can't be.

Squaregirl, either of the last two possibilities.

C'mon, TLP. You know that's you.

Joel, I wouldn't have said nasal. Regal, maybe. Or sonorous. Whoever it has spent a little too much time in acting class, if you know what I mean.

Sis, you know its up to the reader to reveal his or herself. It could be one of those really butch but stylish lesbians.

Sar said...

Still waiting impatiently for a certain male blogger to reveal himself...

uh, not that way - lordamercy!

Anonymous said...

what was the name of that king again?

Anonymous said...

For the record...

Designer jeans? Maybe, but more likely J.Crew or The Gap.

Boat Shoes? Nah, try New Balance.

Acting Classes? Not a one, just born a bad actor.

The name of the king was BoBo...and that my friends is me.

Thank you Doug for the great story and opportunity to join the far more talented list of those who preceeded...and thank you all for the very nice (if undeserved) compliments.

Charlene Amsden said...

Joel -- you read with class and style. Well done.

Doug The Una said...

Haha, Sar, the G-rated version of your wish is my command.

Bobo, Puppybrose. Spelled B...O...B...O.

Joel, thank you. That was a great job. Someday, someone needs to stink up the joint so everyone following feels better but I sure enjoyed your reading.

Quilly, I agree. Thanks for saying so.

Jamie Dawn said...

I'm using the laptop that has no sound, so I haven't heard Joel read the story yet.

Quilly "finger" comment is very witty!

I hope the queen survived her fall. If I'm not mistaken, I heard some of the guards trying to stifle their laughter. The queen isn't well liked by the staff.

BTW, I see both images just fine. You must have figured out the problem.

Anonymous said...

Nice voice, sound like Steven Colbert. Great definition and funny story.

You are a very busy man.

When I read it must be short because those preceding me have done so well and have such kick-ass sexy voices.

Anonymous said...

Just now catching up. Very nice voice work, Joel. Great continuing story, Doug.

Mo'a said...

Joel, well done....New Balance????? Nei, can it be.

Al, LOL I think I saw you there recently, the one in Marlton just off Rt. 70? dsw won't go there....and I don't mean the store ;o

Doug, you do have a way of finding the most amazing talent....how do you do it?

Sar said...

So it was the corporate jet setter - nice job, Joel! And nice job restraining your loving pride for the sake of our curiousity, Snuppy, that couldn't have been easy. :)

Al, your jeans are from W..Wa..Wall...oh Al. *looks to TLP and shakes head*

However, you're forgiven for redeeming yourself with DSW. Btw, is it only me that is greated by the melodious chorus of angels when entering the shoe warehouse?

Doug The Una said...

Thanks, Jamie Dawn. I did find the problem. Turns out I'm an idiot. When you have the chance, Joel's reading is well worth hearing.

Alice, I'll try to work "Blue Christmas" into it. As I recall, you have a lovely voice.

Thanks, Al. What's a DSW?

Mo'a I practice serendipity.

Sar, I guess a show warehouse is where all the voices in your head share a chord.

Anonymous said...

Sar: a'yup, 'twas difficult to hold my loving pride in check. (not sure i did a very good job, but thanks for the kind words).

and JD: as Mel Brooks once said in "The History of the World, part I", "It's good to be the King". i'm with you in thinking that, when it comes to the Queen... not so much.

and, for the record, Joel's voice really *is* MUCH nicer in person -- alas, i'm the idiot who set up the "recording system" on our computer, as evidenced by the lousy quality/low volume levels -- i *do* know professionals in this field, too bad i didn't ask any of 'em for help. sigh.

Minka said...

WTF?

Where is my comment, just because I was late, there is no reason for not showing it*pouts*

but alas:

I guessed it was Joel from the first moment I listened. I think even the voices of Joel and puppy fit together:)

Joel, I think your voice is amazing and soothing and you read wonderfully.

puppy, yes the volume level was way too low, don´t really like to share, do you! ;)

Douglas, there are some amazing sentences in there, hilarious dialogue and why did the Queen have to fall? That hurt!

Doug The Una said...

Puppybrose, it couldn't have been an easy stifling. You're rightly proud.

Thanks, Actonbell. Welcome back.

Thank you, Jamie Dawn. How about ribs?

Thanks, Minka. Aren't you glad we aren't doing this as a video?
