Brandy

BRANDY, n.  A cordial composed of one part thunder-and-lightning, one part remorse, two parts bloody murder, one part death-hell-and-the-grave, two parts clarified Satan and four parts holy Moses!  Dose, a headful all the time.  Brandy is said, by Emerson, I think, to be the drink of heroes.  I certainly should not advise others to tackle it.  By the way, it is rather good.

2008 Update:  The thinking man's sterno.

We have several old brandy snifters. They are great for swirling around the Courvoisier and sipping.
But one is as big as a flower vase. Of course, it comes from a fine old Southern family's estate. No doubt they would agree with Bierce 100%.

For some reason I think brandy, I think 1700s. Did Marie Antoinette drink brandy? Could that explain any of her problems? Could it be that the imbibing of brandy blew her head off rather than that, um, other scenario? Well. It could've happened. xoxo

Brandy is a bit too high class to be used for sterno. It's an excellent elixir for when a person has engaged in too much MacBethery.

Also a fine tune from days gone past:

Brandy
you're a fine girl
what a good wife you would be
but my love
my life
and my lady
is the sea

doo oo doot
doot doot doo oo doot

Brandy!

Does Brand Y taste better or worse than Brand X?

The thinking man's thinking becomes a little bit fuzzy after partaking.

Good with honey & lemon for a cold.

BRANDY n. artificial light that produces a warm glow more appreciated on the inside then the out.

LOL Sauerkraut! I love the song, too. That's a song, right?

Brandy, what we are happy to see St. Bernard dogs for. Although Karma says, you have a whole cask in your own neck, Doug.

Weirsdo, you know I'm not sure I know what Brandy tastes like, but if I ever find out it will probably be from a flower vase.

Mireille, are you suggesting Marat was framed?

Oh, Sauerkraut. I'm the victim of an earworm.

g, that always sounds good.

Karma, I keep it in my belly to regurgitate in emergencies. Welcome back!

TLP, they always pick Y. ALWAYS.

Terry, how would I remember that?

Quilly, I keep my halo on the inside, too.

Ariel, not really. I swallowed a cat.

'And there's a girl, in this harbor town
And she works, laying whiskey down
They say "Brandy, fetch another round"
She serves them whiskey and wine

The sailors say "Brandy, you're a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor
From the sea."'

Those are the verses I like best. I hear it still almost every day!

Brandy is a cute name for a girl. Baptists don't name their daughters Brandy because that would be walking on the edge of sinfulness. If their last name happens to be Daniels, they also refrain from naming their sons Jack.

Pass the brandy, please!

You'd think I could come up with something. Nope. Instead I shall partake in a glass of brandy and hopes that wakes up the braincells...or kills them off. Whichever. I'm easy.

brandy,n. beer of the upperclasses, having the same effect though...makes the world more beautiful...a good place for ugly people to flock around

Brer Bear, a safe re-entry is the best we can hope for.

Good verses, Jim. I'm looking forward to a different earworm, though.

JD, I've heard that about Baptists. They tell me all about it at the bar.

OE, is that a bad thing?

Icy, sounds good to me.

Bottoms up, Jenn. I mean that platonically.

Minka, I really like "makes the world more beautiful...a good place for ugly people to flock around" Sounds like home.

Howcome the alcohols I like tend to have girly names like Brandy and Sherry, whereas something with a manly name like Thunderbird or Mickey's tastes like it was dredged up from a swamp and makes me feel like I've been dragged through a sewer after drinking it?
Then again, La Freug is kind of a manly name. But I think it's more gentlemanly rather than roguish like Thunderbird and Mickey's.
