Darling

DARLING, n. The bore of opposite sex in an early stage of development.

2010 Update: The apple of an orchard-keeper's eye. A term of elevation befitting the condescended.

Very poetic definitions today, Doug. Just with a tiny prick, perfect! ;)

I'll take your word for it, as I've never yet darled.

Sounds tempting, however.

Ariel the Thief is obviously not aware of the Enlish take on prick and then I turn up! Que Sera.

Yeah, I meant pinprick. My vocabulary comes from songs, and I don't always remember the lyrics correctly...

My favorite:
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

I'm sitting here in the shade from that sun on Circus Road, just two blocks from the Beatles' first recording studio on Abbey Road.

Darling: The one I miss.

Oh dear. Can't handle this one.

How odd. Terry lives in California while TLP, Susan and I are East Coast dwellers. Perhaps Nicole B. will comment and we'll have representation from three continents.

Darling, n. last name of one of my schoolmates whose parents hated her so much that they gave her the first name of Marlene to go with it. And her middle name was Mai.

When she was in her 20's (last I heard of her) she was working in a strip joint in Portland and going by the name, Sugar. I wasn't going to add this last bit of information but since the word verifier is "sperm" this seemed like it should be a no-holds-barred comment. If you're unhappy with that, take it up with Google. ;)

Jim, I love that song, too!

Oh Dough darling I have nothing to say about this definition

My mother calls me darling, to the point that for many years I assumed it was my name. Your definition is pretty precise.

Ariel, I think you've mistaken me for some other tourist.

Susan, I hear you darl daily.

C.J., it's like you were summoned.

Ariel, I can see why that one might not stick.

Cheers, Jim.

I know, Terry. Some islands take time to leave. Like Elba.

TLP, I had trouble just typing it.

Karen, it's always nice to hear from Africa.

Thom, that's my preferred form anyway.

Quilly, no complaint but why wouldn't she stick with her given name in that circumstance?

Ariel, I suppose there's a DM cover.

Pia, did you just call me Dough?

I'm feeling precise this week, Cooper.

Doug, that is out of question. :-P
