Pagan

PAGAN, n. A benighted person who prefers home-made deities and indigenous religious rites.

2006 Update: A McWiccan.

Extra! Extra! Announcement having nothing to do with the definitions above, I'm fairly sure: Our pal, Pia, was the subject of a newspaper article about her extraordinary website. The article is here.

From very late to first! WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Pagan... when lil' bohemians call every statue in sight Buddha and their mama just says OM to that!

Minka said...

Hmmm....I think we are more pagan in our modern world than ever before. The idolization of simple humans on the white screen is even more ridiculous than the belief of an all-seeing God!

Pagan...I can't help admiting the McWiccan thing it too cool I don't think I can go any further.

be gone damn heathen

I agree with Cooper. Doug, your definition was simply bewitching.

It's a shame you didn't post Pagan before Soapy's untimely demise. I wonder what she'd have to say about this. She might think it was fishy. Or it tastes just like Wiccan.

The McWiccan definition was paganilicious. And now...I am stumped. Shoot.

mcwiccan...hahahaha, i love it.

Eh??? Say Again? Sorry I'm old and my hearing is bad

Wait Wait Wait..too soon or rather too late the light bulb went off..

So if a pagan prefers home-made deities and indigenous religioin...

A Mc Wiccan would be one of the big three then right

Catholicism
Protestant
Judaism(sp?)
Muslim
Buddhism

(yes that's 4 but its a throwback to Monty Python's Spanish Inquisition sketch)

wait..5 the big 5

McWiccan... LOVE it!!

Pagan: My brother teaches music at two high schools. One is a Christian school and the other is not. He refers to the other as Pagan High. Oh the debauchery that goes on there!! Pagans are wretched, you know.

pagan, n, one that doesn't believe in conscience and disillusionment.

PAGAN, n. A fool who worships tangible things as divine, as opposed to the wise one who worships the one true holy intangible God. Knock wood.

Pagan: follwing earth-centered worship rather than white-man in the sky center-your-worship-on-me.

Miz B, I can't think of a better person to be first on Pagan day. Hurrah!

Minka, it isn't often I have to bow to a more cynical person but you have me today. Well done.

Thanks, Alice. Where did your spell send me? I've been gone for hours.

"Tastes like Wiccan!" That's great, Sar! Get THEE OUT!!!

Jenna, a little Newt's eye ought to clear that right up.

Thanks, Masil.

I was going to say, Village Idiot. You're kind of slanted toward the verbal, aren't you?

Karma, please send the kundalini reverence from us all.

Wretched, Jamie Dawn, just wretched. Not hiding their sinfulness from the teacher. tsk. tsk.

Clever, Ariel. Not so far to far from the Earth.

O Ceallaigh, well done and let me introduce you around.

Friends, O Ceallaigh is a new friend around here who has a similar site to this one which looks very good, I read a lot of good work of his this morning. The site is The New Millennium Devil's Dictionary. I'll put a permanent link up next time I face my template.

In the sky, Dddragon? Right next door most of the time.

pagan, n. Anyone who's not a Christian, if you're part of the Religious Right. See "New Age".

Ariel--- NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!

Doug--I may be a bit verbal at most times..yes..thak you for noticing

Pagan, n. An unwashed hippie Lib who sets spices on fire in his/her living room, while watching reruns of Charmed.

Doug The Una said...

Aral, I'm guessing Christian lesbians count too. Don't be so exclusive.

Ariel, nice step up and....

Slam! V.I., I just meant as compared to math. The whole counting thing.

Thanks, Cowgirl. Go ahead and give me one anyway.

TLM, are you sure you don't me "seafood worshipping con?"

The Village Idiot said...

wasnt being overly sensitive doug..sorry if it came across that was..was just refering to the typographical effluvium I was spewing in the comments

And yes, math was never my strongest subject

Logophile said...

McWiccan is stroke of absolute genius, Doug applause for you!!

The Village Idiot does suffer from logorrhea, you only just noticed, Doug?
And poor math skills to boot, poor thing.
Oh well, at least he knows his Python and Princess Bride.

Doug The Una said...

Good thing you went into rocket science, huh, V.I.?

Thanks, Cowgirl. I'll let you go with hay day.

Thanks, Logo. Can you do nothing to help him?

Anonymous said...

Doug, I finally have him using definitely rather than definately, at least most of the time. Progress is slow, but I am doing my very best. I feel he shows alot of promise so I am willing to keep working with him.

Omnipotent Poobah said...

Yeah Pia!

Now about this pagan thing Douglas. I expect you to report each and every one who comments on this post to me immediately so that I can smite them like...well...pagans!

We can't just have people being pagans (or McWiccans either)! What would the neighbors say? I think a little omnipotent rath is called for.

Fred said...

Can I get my McWiccan without cheese? Or, will that hold up my order?

Maybe I should just go to Burger King.

non-pagan: those trapped in the superficial life of worldly excesses without a clue it is all maya *kundalini rises up through crown chakra, exploding in a brilliant white light of truth*

II aum namaha shivaye II

go, Pia! :))

ihbzzks: i hear it buzzes and kicks

Doug The Una said...

Logo, he does seem to have an unusual receptivity to the force. Please continue as you were.

Poobah, let the Pagan's have it. Be nice to Karma, though. She knoweth what she do.

Catholic, huh, Fred?

Aum, Karma, Namaste. Did you bring shades? Prawn Pakora?

a4g, I should have known you were Sunni.

Mistress Anna said...

Yes those McWiccans are rather ubiquitous. Now if they could serve some of those communion waffers at circle...That would be gold.

Pagan: George Bush!

The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon,
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers,
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not.--Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathed horn.

Indeterminacy said...

Pagan: Those who do not believe the one true religion (my own).

Doug The Una said...

Welcome, Mistress Anna. Organic quinoa communion wafers, ick!

Sunil, welcome back, friend. Guilty of many things, I think Herr Bush can be acquitted of nature worshipping.

Weirsdsworth, I love that poem. When my day involves more than about an hour of conversation I describe it as "The world is too much with me."

Indie, I too worship sylphs. No pagans here.

I toured the White House while in D. C. after Christmas. The Bushes' decorating theme for the holidays was nature, and the little program was quite gushy about their respect for its wonders.

Doug The Una said...

Well, then, Weirsdo, I apologize to our illustrious environmentalist-in-chief.

Mistress Anna said...

Ya those wafers only taste good after 2 bottles of zinfandel.
