Dividing by two

Noah filled his might ship
With pairs of he and she,
And no record from that trip
Upon that wrathful sea
Suggest he suffered confoundation
O'er any critter's assignation.

And yet it seems we modern brothers
Despite our gentle waves
Have trouble telling some from others
Or comparing cribs and graves.
God blessed Noah with more than warning
To know first night from fortieth morning.

And as we struggle to discern,
What distinctions now elude us?
The more we know and more we learn
The more the wise neighbor colludes
The more the scholar deeply delves
The less comes between objects and ourselves.

The stormy, wrath-roiled, boiling sea
That washed the ark to Ararat
Or the modern, gridhewn clarity?
I cannot choose 'tween ours and that
Though the foaming waves reflect much clearer
Than the peaceful lake flat as a mirror.
-Friedrich Schiller

DISCRIMINATION, n. The faculty to behave differently towards distinctive entities, such as discretion and bigotry or subjects and objects.

"Moses stood on the Red Sea shore
Smotin' that water with a two-by-four."

That's what came to my mind. *shrug*

I can't think! I read your last comment from yesterday and now I can't even think. You have been "hinting" about the end, but now you are being positive about this negative thing.

Don't make me come out there.

See what you made me do?

That extra same comment from TLP - just put my name on it.

Doug, please indulge me for a moment. I need a break from my alternative universe. Is your objective to end this blog with California's fiscal year?

k. riggs gardner said...

Nevermind. California's fiscal year 2011 began on July 1, 2010. I must be thinking of federal where 2011 actually begins on Oct. 1, 2010.

I was behind the door when the big announcement was made. I looked for quickly right now and don't know what is going on.

For sure we don't want you to leave. Think of all the followers you have. If you leave they/we might all have a repuditation and burn their Bibles in wrath.

Okay it took me more than 20 minutes to find out what TLP was talking about...and now I say a big WHAT?

Contrary to popular belief, Noah did manage to find male and female unicorns for his ark. Unfortunately, they were both gay. Leviticus later took exception to this, and the rest is history.

Why, thank you, Izmir.

Actonbell, and so many more blogs to do it all on!

Ariel, Leadbelly is always good to have in mind. If I could, I surely would stand on the rock where Moses stood.

A small club, C.J., but a loyal one.

It isn't negative, TLP. I feel pretty good about six posts a week for five and a half years, the occasional vacation excepted.

Nah, Nessa.

Correct, Karen, although in the budget-signing pool, November 6 wouldn't be a bad guess.

Jim, don't sin on my account. I have as many blogs to follow as bloggers who follow mine. Soon, I'll have more.

Thom, there's a middle-sized what on this morning's post.

Hey, there, Womby! Hope you've been well. We could use a good biblical historian around here.

Bear, not rude but a little pointless. I'm pretty sure you'll be high anyway.

Ariel, try "running Ambrose."

As well as I ought to be. It's good to see that you're still around.

I'll fill the post, but a warning: my degree in Bible History comes from the Universal Church of Life.

Wombat, life is not universal, but that's good enough for me.

Bear, I remember that one. The Highwaymen were fun.
